Joining Patterson as an alternate rider is Kathy Martins of Quebec. Kirby Cates. of Saskatoon, and Matthew Hudson, of New Brunswick, are the two leadership members. As an alternate rider, Patterson said she would get the best of both worlds by hanging out at the competitions and at the leadership events. "I get to sec both sides of it because the leaders get different events than the Submitted photo Quarter Horse competitors do," she explained. "I'll get to do a little of both." Scott Newman, of Billings, Montana, will be the Team Canada's coach and Manitoba's Judy Whittingham will be the team's manager. Patterson was one of only two Ontarians to make it to a semi-final round at the world's largest single -breed horse show in the world last October. In a previous interview with The Advocate, she mentioned that attending the World Cup was one of her goals. "It was such an honour to be named to the team." she said, adding that she is looking forward to meeting people from different countries and cultures. "And I look forward to going there as soon as possible and getting away from all this snow."
