firefighters save 40o sows from fire
Close to 400 sows were
saved last Wednesday when
Seaforth firefighters put out a
barn fire Wednesday
morning on Highway 8 near
Division Line.
A cube truck, containing a
high power pressure washer,
caught fire while parked
beside the hog barn on the
farm of Steve and Val
Jansen.
Seaforth's Deputy Fire
Chief Tom Phillips said that
while the cause of the fire is
Mill unknown, the actions of
Steve Jansen helped to
contain the fire until the
firefighters arrived on the
scene around 10:30 a.m.
"They had put a chain on
the truck 4nd pulled it away
from the barn and were
spraying the barn, trying to
put the fire out when we got
there. They did a good job,"
said Phillips.
The cube truck was
completely destroyed by the
fire but while some exterior
boards of the barn were
burned, the barn was saved.
Phillips said firefighters
used. fans to remove smoke
from the section of the barn
which contained the sows.
