March Break programs planned for Huron East children

Whether it's playing
hockey, taking a babysitting
course, swimming or
exploring nature, Huron East
has something for all children
t� do during the March Break.
Kids' March Break
programs are being offered
through the Huron East
Recreation Department at the
Seaforth, Vanastra and
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centres from
March 15 to 19.
The Huron East recreation
((apartment is offering a snow
tubing deal to the River
Valley Tube Slide in St.
Marys.
Tickets for the all -day snow
tubing trip are $25 and buses
will be departing from
Seaforth, Vanastra and
Brussels. Those interested
should contact their local
community centres.
A Hockey Skills Camp will
be held again at the Seaforth
arena on Monday, Wednesday
and Friday. The camp runs
from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m., for
children, ages 7 - 14, at $60
each or $75 for lunch during
the three days.
"The camp was packed
during the Christmas
holidays. It was very
successful so we hope to have
as much interest again this
time," said Dale Lamont,
Seaforth's recreation facilities
manager.
The camp will be led by
Luke Vick and Tyler Doig,
both of Seaforth and players
with the St Marys Lincolns Jr.
B Mid -West AAA team.
The program will include
power skating, stick skills and
puck control, shooting, skills
competition, off ice activities
and a hockey game to
conclude the camp.
The Hockey Skills Camp
has limited space available
and parents should register
their children by calling the
arena at 527-1272.
Also at the Seaforth arena a
Mites hockey tournament will
be held all day on Tuesday
and Thursday. And, on Friday
there will be public skating
from 2 - 4 p.m.
The Brussels, Morris and
Grey Community Centre he
holding a Hockey School
from March 16 to 19 from
9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., for
children ages six -12.
The school be led by minor
hockey coach Larry Lane, of
Wingham, and is a chance for
children to improve on their
hockey skills. To register call
the community centre at 887-
6621.
Also in Brussels, from
Tuesday to Friday the arena
is offering shinny from 2 to 4
p.m. and public skating will
be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
"We have all -day activities
planned throughout the
week," said Lissa Berard,
manager of the Vanastra
Recreation Centre. "There's
always something to do
here."
On Monday, a babysitting
course will be offered all day
to youth for $35. Participants
will receive a certificate at the
end of the course.
A play day, for children
ages five to 12, will be held
on Wednesday that will
include crafts, games and
swimming, with the theme of
St. Patrick's Day.
And, on Thursday, Clifford
- the Big Red Dog - will visit
for play and swimming.
The cost for both play day
events, which run from froth
8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., is $13.

Daily public swimming
will also be held at the
Vanastra Recreation Centre
from ,1:30 - 3:30 p.m, and
general admission is $2 and
only $1 on St. Patrick's Day.
School-age programs will
be held from March 15 to 19
through the Seaforth
Cooperative Children's
Centre.
Lisa Dejong, from the
Ontario Early Years Centre,
will lead ABC 123 on March
15 in the gym at St. James
School from 9 - 11 a.m.
On March 15, children will
go to Starlight Lanes for
bowling at 2 p.m.. The cost
$2.50 per child.
Children will dress in green
on March 17 to celebrate St.
Patrick's Day or dress for the
outdoors to visit the
Wawanosh Nature Centre
from 9:3Q - 11:30 a.m.The
cost is $5.25 per child and
lunch will be held at the
nature centre.
Nature activities will
continue on March 18 and
children are asked to bring a
clean milk carton.
And on March 19,
Snowfest will be held at the
Cooperative Children's
Centre with outdoor games
planned and skating at the
Seaforth arena.
The Friends of Hullett will
be holding two nature
programs at the Hullett Marsh
Conservation Area for
children, ages six to 12, on
March 17 and 19 at 10 a.m. -
12 p.m. and 1 - 3 p.m.
"Our Feathered Friends" is
a chance for children to look
at bird habits, discuss
migration and discover the
different types of birds living
at the conservation area.
Children can also take part
in a "Nature Art and Hike" as
they explore the Hullett
Marsh, record journals and
• draw the scenic areas.
Parents should register their
children by calling Sandra
Johnstone at the conservation
area at 482-7011.

Final donations
The Seaforth Community Development Trust donated $10,000, the final installment of their
$50,000 contribution to the Seaforth Cooperative Children's Centre. Doug Elliott, owner of
