HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuron Expositor, 2004-03-10, Page 9Correspondents St. Columban Church filled for Derek Maloney's funeral St. Columban Church was tilled to capacity on Thursday, March 4, as family members, relatives, neighbours and friends gathered together to mourn the loss of Derek Maloney. Derek, the son of Leon and Mary Maloney, was a proud farmer in the area. Among the many accomplishments of his life was the attaining of his commercial helicopter pilot's licence. Father Lance Magdziak was joined by Father Moe Charbonneau and Father Joe St. Columban 47. Cards of Thanks BOVEN We would like to thank Drs. Albrecht and Tong and the nurses for the excellent care Avery received as a patient at Seaforth Community Hospital. Also thanks to our families for taking care of Tanner while we were at the hospi- tal. - Mike and Shirley -Ann 47- 11x1 Hardy in con -celebrating the Mass of Christian burial for Derek. The readings were proclaimed by Julie Houben and Tracy Klaver. The Prayers of the Faithful were given by Rob Vanden Henget. The Offertory gifts were brought forward by Matt Klaver, MacKenzie Reid, and Blake and Lane Buchanan. At the end of Mass, Rob Seiler and Julie Houben paid a moving and fitting tribute to Derek. Besides his parents, Derek will be deeply missed by his brother, Chris and Angela Maloney; his sisters, Sherri and Brad Buchanan and Kim and Tim Buchanan and their families; his grandmother, Elizabeth Klaver; many relatives and friends, and indeed, the entire local community. Green was the color, music and merriment the order of the day, as the band "Steerage" led in song and dance as people from all over the area gathered to celebrate an early St. Patrick's Day event sponsored by the St. Columban Parish. All kinds of Irish decorations were in evidence everywhere, including decorated hats, berets, ties, shamrocks, leprechauns and pots of gold. Encouraged by Sharon Kelly, several local people showed how well they could dance the reels and jigs. Adding to the festivities, even St. Patrick (a.k.a. Father Lance) made an appearance, resplendent in his gold cape and green miter. A social evening of fun, food, music and visiting was enjoyed by all.
