Students mourn loss of classmate
The students of St.
Columban School endured a
sad week as they bade a final
farewell to one of their own
classmates.
Kevin Alexander Gaffney
was born Jan. 4, 1990 and
died on Feb. 9. He was a
member of the Grade 8
graduating class.
The students participated in
the funeral liturgy held at St.
Patrick's Church in Dublin on
Feb. 12. The presider was
Father Moe Charbonneau and
Father Chris Quinlan.
Kevin's Grade 8 classmates
read the Prayers of the
Faithful and sang two songs
during the celebration. The
choir sang the song "Friends"
in honour of Kevin, their
friend.
During the celebration,
treasured reminders of Kevin
were taken up in procession
by his classmates. These
included his Barney blanket,
hickory sticks, pipe cleaners,
stuffed teddy bear named
"Rod" and stuffed dog named

"Nessy", a card made by his
classmates and signed by
everyone at the school and a
rainbow of coloured balloons.
In a poignant moment of
silence at the end of Mass,
outside the church, the multi-
coloured balloons were
released in memory of
Kevin's courageous, rising
spirit.
The students will deeply
miss Kevin, as will his Mom
and Dad, Anna and Donald
Gaffney, and his brothers,
Ryan and Danny.
Mr. Raid's class hosted a
Valentine's Dance in the gym.
Everyone enjoyed the
Valentine theme and danced to
their favourite CDs.

Perth Care for Kids free program Crazy
About Crafts, through Ontario Early Years.
Above Anna Looby, three, couldn't be
happier as her mother, Francine, puts on
the macaroni necklace she made with her
four-year-old sister, Mariah. At left, three-
year-old Amber Rock carefully pieces
together a bird feeder she's making. The
six-week program runs every Friday from
