Minor basketball program returning for second vear By Sora Campbell Expositor Staff Despite concerns from Seaforth parents that they would have to send their children to Clinton to play minor basketbal, a program will be offered in Seaforth for the second year. "We wanted to get it going no matter what but we had some difficulty trying to get it set up and finding someone to help organize it," said Dale Lamont, Seaforth's recreation facilities manager. Lamont said that because of a similar program advertised in Clinton at Central Huron Secondary School, Seaforth parents were concerned that if the minor basketball program did not start locally they would have to pay an additional $20 if they were late registering in Clinton. "It was fairly successful last year when it first started and we know there's interest here agan," said Lamont. "We will be taking registration this week and hopefully we can get it going the following week." The minor basketball program will be split into three groups - beginners (Grades 1-3), juniors (Grades 4-6) and seniors (Grades 7 and 8). Lamont said he also hopes to have intersquad games and participate in two tournaments against the minor basketball program in Clinton as the program last year. "The program will teach basic basketball fundamentals with games and maybe we can get some tournaments going too," he said. Lamont said he began putting flyers up in schools last week and anyone interested can contact the Seaforth arena for more information at 527-1272. The 12 -week program is $40 for registration and will be held once a week in the gym at Seaforth Public School.
