Possibility of break far more attractive
than boredom on snow day afternoon
From Page 4
the Guess Who fill the
bedroom singing, "Get Up in
the Morning, Get On the
Bus."
The hush continues as the
list of closed schools is read
and of course, the inevitable
cheer resounds as Seaforth
Public School appears on the
list.
Bodies clear out p the
bedrupm faster and more
energetically than they do
during any school morning
and a stampede can be heard
heading down the stairs for
the television.
I must admit that a snow
day does create a festive air.
Even if it's still a work day
for me, it means snuggling
down under the covers in my
now deserted bed and rolling
over for at least a few more
luxurious moments of sleep.
But, when one snow day
extends into the next, the
novelty wears off rather
quickly and we're all faced
with the equally -frustrating
alternatives of working at
home or dragging kids to the
office - neither of which were
productive or satisfying the
day before.
And, when it becomes clear
that homework assignments,
piano practice and upcoming
projects must still be
completed regardless of
whether it's a snow day or
not, the holiday air dissipates
pretty fast.
Anticipation is the true
sweetness of the snow day.
The possibility of a break, a
rest, a day out of scheduled
time is far more attractive than
the boredom and crankiness
that always seems to fill the
afternoon of every snow day.
Of course, there's always
the bragging rights the snow
day brings. Friends and
cousins who live in the near -
tropic climes of Aylmer ands
Strathroy listen with envy as
my kids list the days of
school they've missed from
lake effect snow.
But, even my kids can
admit there can be too much
of a good thing.
When the next day dawns
and the roads and sky are
clear, it's me who's most
energized as the kids trudge
off down the road to school.
But, while they might think
I'm not looking, 1 can see my
kids' pleasure as they
scramble over snowbanks and
greet their friends on their
way back to routine and
regular life.

Thursday night to coast to

MPP Helen Johns.
Despite an attempt by
Seaforth Coun. Dick Burgess to
have the motion ruled out of
order, Huron East agreed to pay
