Cottle spent Thursday in London. Mr. Wm. Davis spent the week- end in London. Mr. Chas. Kerslake. is in Goderieh this week as juryman. Mrs. E. Rowcliffe and 14liss Verda spent the week -end in London. Misses Ethel and Alice Preszcator spent the week -end in London. Christmas is drawing closerand shopping days and getting fewer, Mr. Jas. Dearing, of London,' vis- ited for several days with relatives, in town. Mrs. Wm. Kernick, of town, who has been ill with pneumonia, is im- proving. Mr. J. A. Gardiner, of Detroit, spent a few days at the home of Mrs. J. Cottle. Mr. Jas. McDonald, of Trenton, Ont., is visiting with his 'sister, Mrs. T. G. Creech. Mr. Ross Hern, of Zion, is spend- ing a few days with his aunt, Mrs. Chas. Kerslake. Mr. and Mrs. Sid Sanders and son Aljoe and Mr. Bert Doyle spent Fri- day last in Stratford. Mrs. Esli Heywood visited during the week with her sister, Mrs. J. W. LViallett, of London. The postoffice is beginning to as- sume a busy appearance as Christ- mas is approaching. Sunday school scholars and 'day school scholars are preparing for Christmas entertainments. Mrs. IL B. Quance, of Loudon, spent Thursday of last week with her mother, Mrs. Allen. L._Mr. and Mrs. W. Miss. Maud Miller, who has been teaching at S. S. Ne. 2, Hay, has re- signed her position to take effect at Christmas. Miss Agnes Cann, of Hamilton, visited for a few days the 'forepart of the week at the home of Mrs. C. A. Southcott. Mrs. Norman Lloyd, of Brucefield returned home Saturday after vis- iting with her sister, Mrs. Brevard, of Flint, Mich. Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Tuckey and two children and Mr. Benson Tuckey, of London, spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Tuckey. Miss Muriel Howald is ill at her home with pneumonia with two trained nurses in attendance. Her. many friends will hope for a speedy recovery. Though somewhat improved • in health, Mrs Joe McDonald, Exeter North is still in a very serious con- dition. We hope for her a speedy recovery. Mrs. Thos. Elliott was called to Marlette, Mich., on Thursday of last week owing to the serious ill- ness of her son-in-law, Mr. Fred. Redmond. Mr. and Mrs. Jas.'Jewell left last- week astweek to spend the winter with Mr, and Mrs. Wm. Bradt, of London and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McAlister, of 34. Brydges. Mr. Albert Pearson, Mrs. May Boney and Mr. and Mrs. Murray T. Armstrong, of London, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. + Chas. Kerslake and other relatives. An auto truck on its way from Goderich to London skidded into the ditch four times on Friday last. It went into the ditch two miles south of town and had to be pulled out. Mrs. W. Burke, who has been ill in Victoria Hospital, is sufficiently improved as to be able to leave the hospital and is now staying at the home of her sister, Mrs. R. Huston, of London. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Ryckman, who recently disposed of their prop- erty at Archydale, Sask., arrived in town Saturday and expect to make their future home in this community, We welcome them to our midst. The main streets of Granton and Thorndale will be paved next year, the Middlesex County Council decid- ed this week. Other towns where streets will be paved are Strathroy, Parkhill, Dorchester and Mount Brydges. On Thursday last late in the after- noon while Mr. John Oke was driv- ing to the Exeter station with a horse and buggy he narrowly escap- ed a serious accident by being run into by an auto truck. The truck struck the shaft of the buggy which broke, also breaking some of ' the harness. Fortunatelyl: nb "one, was hurt. Fire broke out in the church at Anderson on Sunday morning, comber 5th from an overheated' furnace. 'the men of<; the comintintty were called' by tele'phelie''`dnd were soon on the scene.
