Packed arena makes Vick benefit hockey game success By Sara Campbell Expositor Staff Hundreds of people filled the Seaforth arena on Saturday evening, Dec. 20, to show their support for Vick and his family by attending the Benefit Hockey Game. "I never thought there would be so many people here. The arena is packed, it's just unbelievable," said Vick. "I never realized I had so many friends." Saturday's game was between the former instructors at the Dave McLlwain Hockey School (where he taught for six years) and local talent including NCAA, CIAU, OHL, Junior and Sr. A players, organized by Graham and Derek Nesbitt. Vick is pursuing a five- year goal to walk again after a dirt bike accident left the 22 -year-old Seaforth man paralyzed from the waist down last July. This January, Vick is entering a four-week study at McMaster University where his legs will be stimulated by electrodes for spinal cord research. He's also planning to begin attending spinal cord research conferences, including one in Las Vegas next year with his London specialist. Although, prior to the start of the benefit game, Vick said "I hope they tie," the score was close as the black team defeated the the white team 7-6. "It's not really who wins or loses anyways, it's all just for fun," said Vick. All proceeds from the event went towards Vick and his family but no total of funds raised at the benefit game has been finalized.
