Born in England, he came to Vama, with his parents in 1931. After one year at the University of Toronto, he joined the RCAF in 1940 serving as a pilot until 1945 when he returned to the University of Toronto. He was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship in 1946 and attended Oxford University for 2 years, graduating with a degree in Engineering Science. He rejoined the RCAF and had many postings until he took early retirement in 1971. He then worked at the Science Secretariat, Treasury Board, Transport Canada and finally as manager of the Solar Energy program at the National Research Council until compulsory retirement in 1985. He enjoyed all his postings, the challenges of the work, and the camaraderie of those with whom he worked. In 1986, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's which gradually reduced his ability to participate in the outdoor sports which he loved. He transferred his energy to an intense study of Parkinson's - the history, the many variations of the affliction, and the research being done world-wide. As a member of the Editorial Board of the Parkinson's Society in Ottawa, he tried to share the knowledge he was gaining with others. His death from a heart attack was unexpect- ed. The memorial service and burial were held in Ottawa on 5 December 2003.
