Atom 2 to skate in London
By Susan Hundertmark

Seaforth's Atom 2 hockey
team will be skating on the big
ice at London's John Labatt
Centre on Friday, Nov. 28 as
part of a promotion by the
London Knights.
The Seaforth team, made up
of local nine and 10 -year-olds,
will be playing a 45 -minute
game against a Blyth Atom
team at 5:45 p.m. before the
regular Knights' game.
And, one player from each
team will be chosen to warm
up with the Knights before the
national anthem is played.
"It's pretty neat," says coach
Pete Martene. "The team is
keen. They get to stay for the
game with the Knights
afterwards and get their names
on the big screen."
The Atom 2 team is the
second Seaforth team to
participate in the Knights'
promotion.
Last year at the end of the
minor hockey season, the
Seaforth Atom 1 team was
invited to play, again against
Blyth, before a Knights game.
"It was a freak thing last
year," says. coach Ralph
Currie. "We phoned down to
price tickets because. we
wanted to watch a Knights
game as a team and were
invited to play."
During the same day, four
other minor hockey teams also
played games and six young
players got to join the Knights
on the ice for their pre -game
warm-up skate.
Jordan Currie was the lucky
one from Seaforth.
"He was a little scared at
first because he thought the
pucks might be flying but it
was just a skate and then
standing with the team for the
national anthem," says Currie.
He says the promotion
involved each team selling 40
tickets each for the game,
something neither Seaforth
nor Blyth had difficulty doing
as 83 people from Seaforth
attended that night and over
40 from Blyth.
"It was a great night. The
kids had a hoot on the big ice
surface and we all had fun
watching the Knights game,
even though the Knights lost
to the Rangers and there was a
goaltender fight that night," he
says.
Seaforth teams interested in
taking part in the Knights'
promotion were given an
opportunity to sign a sheet at
the arena. Martene says the
Seaforth Novice team will
also be playing at the John
Labatt Centre sometime in
January.
