Hensall pays tribute to fallen comrades

community are invited to
attend the Hensall South
Huron Agricultural Society's
Annual Meeting in the
auditorium of the Hensall
Community Centre on Nov.
24 at 7 p.m. Jan Bonhomme
from Festival Events Ontario
will be the guest speaker.
Jan's topic will be "Staging
Successful Small -Town
Events." She has 25 years
experience organizing such
events as the "Port Elgin
PumpkinFest", winner of 26
provincial awards including
the Peoples Choice Award
for most popular event in
Ontario. For more

On Nov. 9 Hensall Legion
members held a short parade
to Carmel Presbyterian
Hensall
Church, the host church for
the Remembrance Day
service. The service was
conducted by their minister,
Tracy Whitson-Bahro and
Fred Darke, minister of
Hensall United Church.
Afterwards a memorial
service was conducted at the
cenotaph, paying tribute to
our fallen comrades.
Wreaths and crosses were
placed by area service clubs,
organizations,
municipalities, businesses
and individuals.
On Nov. 11 the Legion
held a Remembrance Day
banquet at the Hensall
Community Centre. The
guest speaker was be Jessie
Purser, a war bride.
On Nov. 22 their will be a
Solo Tournament and Turkey
Draw at the Legion.
On Friday Nov. 28 the
Annual Poor Boy Luncheon
will be held. Take-out orders
will be available. For more

At their last regular
meeting on Nov. 5 the
Kinsmen Club of Hensall
decided to host a Children's
Christmas Party, with Santa
Claus and all the treats. It
will be held on Dec. 13 at
the Hensall Arena. Once
again the Kinsmen Club of
Hensall will operate a Toy
Drop for the Huron County
Christmas Bureau. The Toy
Drop will be held at the
Hensall Library.
Come out and enjoy the
fall weather, friendship, and
our November meal at the
Hensall Drop -In on Nov. 20
at , the Hensall United
Church. Lunch will be
served at 12 noon.
Following lunch we will be
having a speaker from Noel
In The Village. If required,
transportation can be

Nursing and Retirement
Home in Hensall.
Monday morning members
of the Queensway ladies'
auxiliary gathered to preview
the November calendar and
offer their help wherever
needed. Some take
responsibility for delivering
Meals on Wheels, some
provide visits to residents,
others help at programs and
still others partner with
residents, playing games of
their choosing.
Monday afternoon,
Queensway was pleased to
host the Zurich Women's
Institute meeting and give the
women a tour of the home.
A good number of residents
enjoyed playing bingo
Monday afternoon, with
assistance and prizes
provided by the Exeter
Bethel Reform Women.
Rev. Sheila Macgregor led
worship Tuesday afternoon
with Belva Fuss as volunteer
pianist. In the evening the
Christian Reform Singers
gave their wonderful
program of gospel music in
the Retirement Home
Lounge. Volunteers Priscilla
Lambert and Edna Dietz
assisted residents to the
program and served
refreshments.
Several euchre players
spent Wednesday
afternoon
competing at their
favourite game
organized by volunteer Marg
Cole.
On Thursday afternoon,
The Nashville Rejects
entertained a lively group of
residents, who at times had
the dance floor full. A
hilarious comment that drew
laughter from everyone was
when one resident said,
"Don't tell my kids I'm
carrying on like this!"
Friday evening, Andy Rau
and Friends made wonderful
music for the Friendship
Friday program in the
retirement home lounge.
Residents also benefited
from fun and fitness,
manicures, coffee and
current events and other
regular programs.

service. The Hensall Legion
members and Scouting
Movement were special
guests.
Special Music was
provided by the Christian
Reformed Men's Choir.
Larry Uyl introduced his
nephew Peter Kikkert who
spoke on a Victoria Cross
recipient. Dorothy Taylor
and Joyce Pepper were the
pianist and organist for this
special service. The ushers
were Harry Moir, Harry
Smith, Bob Bell and Frank
Varley. Following the
service wreaths were placed
at the cenotaph.
The Hensall and
Community Horticultural
Society will hold their
Christmas Pot -Luck supper
and meeting at Hensall
United Church on Nov. 27.
Natalie Kerslake of Village
Vines will be the guest
speaker. The garden hosts of
2003 will be our special
guests. Everyone is
welcome to attend this
special meeting of food, fun
and fellowship. There will
also be door prizes.
