Dublin bridge near completion
By Sara Campbell
Expositor Staff
Dublin and area
residents will be happy to
see improvements to
Highway 8 and the Liffy
Drain bridge are near
completion.
Construction which
began in June for the the
$2.6 million Highway 8
project, as part of the
Ontario government's
SuperBuild project,
involves the reconstruction
of the highway in Dublin
and replacement of the
Liffy Drain bridge.
"The rainy weather
slowed us down there for a
bit, but we had a few nice
days as well so we seem to
be right on schedule," said
Joe Looby, of Looby
Construction Ltd.
The Dublin construction
company was a sub-
contractor for the bridge
portion of the project and
is working under Lavis
Contracting Company
Ltd., who was awarded the
full contract.
To minimize disruption
for motorists, the highway
remained open, with
temporary lane reductions
on the southern side, and

traffic signal controlled,
single -lane operations at
the bridge site.
Although this set up was
creating difficulties for
area businesses in the
midst of th'e construction,
Looby said he has heard
few complaints.
"I haven't seen any
problems here from the
people but I'm sure they'll
be happy to see it come to
end," he said.
The project also
included guiderail and
signage upgrades as well
as minor intersection
improvements on Highway
8.
Looby said that as things
are on schedule and the
bridge deck was poured
last week, they will
complete the project and
clean up by the end of
November.
