The county police are on their trail
and it is hoped they will soon be

Our council have this week plac-
ed stop signs •on all streets running
into King street, and at the inter-
section of King street and the Lon-
don road. All drivers of cars are.
supposed to' stop a moment before
driving onto King street and - at
the London road. A bylaw is being
prepared and. will. be submitted to
the minister of Public Highways
for approval, after which the by-law
:will be enforced. The council are
doing this"to protect its citizens and
the owners of automobiles. The
action of the council in placing the
signs 'Will be approved. of by the
majority of the citizens. Although -
there will most likely be a few auto-
mobile drivers opposed to it. A11
careful drivers wile. obey the by-law
Without any trouble and the reck-
leas ones will be made do it.
'What might have been a serious
aetident happened a mile east of
Hensel]. on Sunday evening *hen
Mr. John Corbett and sister Miss
Bertha, of Hay accompanied by a
couple o3 friends ,were driving into
town in horse and buggy when
they turned out :to let two rigs pass
end an auk which was coming past
the buggies attempting to pass at
s the 'same time. The auto struch the
horse knocking it.:, over into the
•ditch .and upsetting the buggy, the
occupants were thrown out but not
seriously hurt, but the horse was
badly cut and the buggy nearly a
{wreck. The windshield, lights and
.st'eering gear of the auto were badly
n damaged. The fault appeared to be
with the drivers of the two buggies
who were racing the Horses, and
would not give the drive • of the
*automobile a fair chance to get by
and ie. trying to get' past he faired
to see the Corbett rig and smashed.

took place at the Rectory on Satur-
day morning, Rev. Mr, Naylor per-

was opened by • the singing of a
hymn after which' Mr. Sinclair led
In prayer. The scripture lesson was
read by Mss E. Murdock, The topic

Hopkirk. A duet by Mrs. Lee 'Red-
den, and Mrs. McDonald and a read-
ing by Miss Gladys Slay, weres all
greatly enjoyed. Next Monday ev-
ening the meeting will ' be 'in charge
of Miss E. Morrison.

A number of burglaries have tali-

Fuss, of. Zurich, met With an auto
accideirt on the Zurich road. Some-
thing went wrong with the steering
gear and the car took, to •the ditch
smashing it badly and shaking 'Up
the occupants. Mrs. Kropf received
a gash in the arm Which required
ten stitches to close. -

Mr5.- Russell Hedden has returned
home from Pt. Huron and was ac-
companied home by her son Eber,
Mr. and Mrs. Fogel and family, of
Port Huron and Miss M. Gowrie, of
Sarnia.
Mrs. A. J. Ford, wb.o has been un-
der the doctor's care for some time
was taken to Hamilton last week to
visit her brother, Mr, W. J, Westa-
way. At present she is in the City
hospital, where her case is being
diagnosed.
•Mr. Richard Coates, of Usborne,
had e. successful auction sale of
chattels -on : Monday and has moved
to town to occupy the residence he
recently purchased on. Huron St.
which has just been renovated and
remodelled inside. We welcome Mr.
and; Mrs. Coates and son Frank to
town.
Miss Annie Sidimons, who was at-
tending Wells Academy ,in London,
visited with her parents for Fair Day
and the same evening she was taken
ill with appendicitis. She was taken
to Victoria Hospital, London, and on
Thursday underwent an operation.
She is getting .on as well as can be
expected.
