EXETER WINS Exeter won th• fret game of the South Huron Base Daly League fin ale on Labor Day from'Zurich by a score of 4--0, iii the best played game of the season. Exeter finish- ed the sebedule at the top of the league while Zurich finished se- coen, The first and second 'canis play off ,for the championship. Tho best two out of three games, and this was, the first one, and it sure was a good one, The 500 fans that stood the cold winds that swept the field were well repaid and witnessed a real battle, from the 'first ball pitched to the last. The crowd was lay' far the largest in a good many years and the boys sure enjoyed it. There is noth- ing that puts pep to a team like good support; and it *is gratifying to see a young bunch of boys like we have here go through in a final game without one error, Setting back to the game it would be hard to pick out any star: on either teamevery man did his diitv and did it well. The pitchers may have. stood' out a little for both. Gascho of Zurich and Lawson of Exeter, pitched great ball and used their heads • at all times: Lawson worked out of two holes by using his head with fast double plays.. Exe- ter shone in their line of play with no less than four' fast double plays. Exeter scored one in the first hell of the first innings, when Medd was hit by a pitched ball; went to second on an out; and. scored on Lawson's two base bit- over' the right field fence. That ended the scoring till the seventh when Exeter ,scored -three more on some nice hits. A. pass ball and a perfect squeeze play,' when Dignan lay down a bunt to score Anderson from third on a close play. George Hinds at second had the ladies excited on several hot grounders. ' George picks them clean but likes to excite the ladies by see- ing the man run to first for a closer Lee Hoffman at short stop for Zu- rich played a nice game., picking off some hard hit balls. Lee has " not lost any of his old pep and is a real ball player. The next game will be played in Zurich on Friday at whenall y 4:30, roads will. lead to Zurich. Exeter will send out 150 .fans with the team Another' win will bring'home the acon.
