When he looked back at his team of reindeer, he discovered that one of them was sick. His name was Vixen. Santa had no choice but to go back to the North Pole and cancel Christmas. Or he could go back and get a reindeer from training. His name was Chad and he was ten years old. So that's what he did. Chad took Vixen's place. Now they had to fly so fast even faster than the speed of light to get all the toys delivered. Christmas was saved! Ibmmy McGrath Grade 3 St. James School Bounce, tiie:best hard-working elf It was a stormy day at the North Pole. Santa had a cold and it was two days before Christmas. Mrs. Claus gave Santa a cup of coffee and some cookies. He was coughing like crazy! Mrs. Claus said, "You cannot fly on the sled." But Santa said, "No?" Mrs. Claus repeated, "No! You aren't flying with that cold!" Santa said, "Okay." So Mrs. Claus picked the best hard working elf. His name was Bounce. He loved to jump. But Bounce could not drive his own car. He thought he could drive the sled. The next morning Bounce tried flying the sled. He called Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and all the other reindeer. But they did not come. So he had to look for them. He found them in Santa's old barn. He brought them to the sled and hooked them up. He practiced until his supper time. It was time for him to go. He finally knew how to fly! Deanna Devereaux Grade 3 St. James School A blizzard strikes at Christmastime "Tell us a story, Great Grandpa. Please!" chanted the many eager great grandchildren of the frail old man. "Sure, young children. I'll tell you a story of when I was a little boy, an old fashioned Christmas." "It was Christmas Eve, and my brothers and sisters and I were bundling up for a cold buggy ride to the 11 o'clock Mass. My father, a tall, jolly man, was at the reins, and my mother, kind and loving, was holding baby Josephine. At the full church, we were all quiet as usual, but our faces were shining, remembering what would happen the next morning. Suddenly, during the sermon, the usher rushed down thc aisle. "A blizzard!" he yelled, his face red. "We're stuck here for the night!" Little children cried and whined, and some people fainted. "Stay calm," said thc priest, "everything will be okay." He signalled to an usher, and the usher signalled to the altars servers. They went through the door to the priest.'s house. All of us children were bored, and a little scared, but we were relieved when the Sunday School teacher called all of us children over to sing carols. Even the older members of the choir came and sang with us. Then the altar servers and the ushers came back with the priest's own Christmas feast, which was shared by all. I still remember that delicious stuffing. All of us children cried out with glee when a Father Christmas (now you call him Santa) came out and gave us joyful children what would be the usual Sunday School treats. I don't remember the rest because we were all tuckered out from the excitement, but I think that was my best old fashioned Christmas ever! Ali Kramers Grade 6 St. James School The year the toys went missing It was a few weeks before Christmas. All the elves were busy making toys for the children. It was a cold and chilly day at the North Pole and Santa was worried that the weather might be this bad on Christmas night. Mrs. Claus was trying to cheer him up. She said, "1 do not think that the storm will be this bad." "I guess we will see," said Santa. "I wonder how the elves are doing," said Mrs. Claus. "I will go check" said Santa. "How are you doing?" asked Santa. "We are doing very well," said Bill the elf. "Would you like to see?" So Santa and Bill went to the toy room. Bill said, "Here they are." They opened the doors. "Why are there only ten presents made? There used to be fifty presents in here!" "We better tell everyone else." "Listen up," said Bill. "The presents have gone missing!" Everyone was surprised. "Where did they go?" asked one elf. "Who took them?" asked another. "We do not know. We cannot make that many in two days. All those children will be so disappointed. I guess I will go buy some toys in town," said Santa. "You can't go out there. The people will see you." "I will disguise myself. Anything but seeing those disappointed faces on the children." So the next day Santa went into town and bought a doll for Jen and a soccer ball for Ted and of course a barbie for dear Krista and a lot more for many more children. Then Santa went back to the North Pole. They were busy wrapping presents. They were rushing because they only had four hours until Santa had to leave. Finally it was time to leave. They packed all the toys in Santa's sack. Santa go in and said, "On Dasher, on Dancer, on Prancer, on Comet, on Cupid, on Blitzen, on Vixen, on Donner. Lead them Rudolph!" Out through the snow they went and up, up, up into they sky they went. First Santa went to Dodge City: He went to little Joe's house and then little Timmy's house and went to a lot of other houses. One house he went to, a bird started to chirp. Santa went really quickly so the children didn't wake up. Then Santa went back to the North Pole. He saw very mysterious big footsteps so he followed the track of footsteps. the footsteps led to a shed. He opened the doors and there were all the toys that the elves had made. "I guess we got a head start for next year!" said Santa. "I better tell everyone else." So Santa ran back to the work shop and told everyone. "I wonder who took them," asked Bill? "I guess we will never know." said Santa. That was one crazy Christmas! Kristen Nolan Grade 3 St. James School A Christmas lesson It was Christmas Eve and I was walking home from a store that I bought a pack of hockey cards from. It was fairly cold and snowflakes were slowly falling. I was thinking of all the presents I would get on Christmas Day, when I saw a homeless person sitting on the sidewalk. I stopped and thought what it would be like on Christmas for that ,person. I had to.walk down the alley that he was in to get to my house. As I passed him he looked up at me, that is when I started to run. He came after me. I was running so hard huffing and puffing and getting more and more tired every minute. Then the stranger suddenly stopped and yelled, "I just want to talk." Then I stopped and thought what if he wasn't as bad as I think he might be. I thought about it and decided to talk to the stranger. I slowly approached him and he looked pretty nice. The stranger said, "My name is Gregory." I said, "My name is Anthony." Greg said, "I wanted to ask you if you had any money for me on Christmas?" I said "I have some and then I gave the money to him. I was about to leave but then I asked him, "How did you end up on the streets?" Greg told his story of how he didn't have very good parents and they decided the best thing for them to do with him was to give him to an orphanage. Greg ended up not getting a good education so it was hard for him to get a job. He couldn't get enough money for the bills and rent so he ended up on the streets. Then Greg asked "Would you like some of the food I have collected?" I said, "No thank you!" and noticed that this man had just offered to give me some of his food which he usually can't get, that was a pretty nice thing to do. Then I thought if Gregory would like to stay at our house for Christmas. I asked him and he said that it would be great, he was so happy! So Greg had Christmas with Anthony and his family and Anthony learned that Christmas wasn't about getting all the presents it was about helping others out. Cody Janmaat Grade 6 St. James School The Christmas that meant everything Bobby was very excited about Christmas. His 1 list was as long as the paper chain he had made for the Christmas tree. He wted to get as many game?boy and play station games as the store owned. The only thing was Mom and Dad couldn't afford any of that. Bobby didn't even own a real game boy. His was made of cardboard and buttons off of one of my old t -shirts. All my list consisted of was a pair of socks and hair elastics. Bobby didn't understand that Christmas wasn't about getting presents, but to celebrate the birth of Jesus. He didn't understand that there were bills to pay and that Dad was the only one who worked in the family. Bobby just didn't understand. Mom and Dad almost couldn't afford food, let alone game boys. One day Grandpa Joe came to our house to babysit. He saw Bobby's seven foot long list of toys and started to worry. He decided to teach him a lesson. He brought up Christmas when he was a boy and told us what he got. Bobby was amazed that Grandpa Joe only got an orange, a candy cane, and a colouring book. It taught Bobby a valuable lesson and he didn't seem surprised when he opened his present Christmas morning. We each got socks, a pair of shoes, and a basket of love.
