Mr. Robert Green, who has been
visiting his parents for the last two
weeks returned to his home, at De-
troit on Saturday.

A double wedding took place at the
Evangelcial parsonage, Zurich, when
Vila Julia Musselman, of. Elmira,
was united in, marriage to Mr. Meant)
S. Steckle, of Zurich, and Irla Melis-
sa Musselman became the bride of
Mr. Peter Gingerich, of Zurich, Rev.
W. B. Dengis""officiated. After the
,ceremonies the happy couples motor-
ied to Elmira to the home of Mn. and
lire. Em. Musselman, parents of the
brides, where a sumptuous wedding
dinner 'was awaiting them. 'l he
room was daintily ';decorated with
roses and ferns. Immediately after
the repast the bridal parties left by
motor for Hamilton, Niagara and
points in the States. Upon their re-
turn they ,will reside near Zurich,
Ont.

was in town Tuesday of this week to
submit a proposition to the Hensall
Council, and Mr. Carmichael of the
Lorne Manufacturing Company, of
Ingersoll, will/ be in town Wednes-
day evening of this week with an

A very sad telegram was received
here yesterday morning from Fort I
William which stated that Alvin Al-
exander had been "'drowned while
out in a canoe. Over a month ago
he went to Northern Ontario and
had charge of a trading post there.
Much gloom passed over the neigh-
borhood
as he was a clever young
boy and very much thought of by all
who knew him. He was just in his
19th year. He had been a student
of Exeter High school. Much sym-
pathy is felt for the family. The
body has not yet'been`found.

scene of a beautiful wedding on

Thedford in new uniforms stepped
out and won their second game in
the Grand Bend softball league fix-
ture over the week -end when the de-
feated the Forest girls 22 to 8.
Probably the closest game of the
series was when Parkhill defeated
Kippen 20 to 14. The announcement
is made that in addition to the silver
cup for the team finishiftg' first on
Labor Day next, two more cups will
be given, one for the team finishing
second and one for the team finish-
ing third. Mr. G. E. Eccleston of-
fers*, the
f-fers*,the cups for first and third
place and Mr. H. Gill for second. A
silver cup will also be awarded -to
the girl' making the most hits and a
silver eup to the team having the
prettiest uniforms. A picked team
of men
of Grand Bend visitors,
and
who are cottagers for the season,
have challenged any team within 70
miles of the Bend, day and time to
be arranged. Mr. Geo. Eccleston,
proprietor of the Casino, offers a
silver cup to the winning team.
It is expected that the hydro ser-
vice to Grand Bend will be connect-
ed up during the coming week.
There will'be little change in the
street lighting except that the num-
ber 'will be reduced and larger lamps
will be used. The casino and hotels
are discarding their private systems
and are installing hydro. Hydro is
also being supplied to the cottages
and about 75 cottages have been
wired.

The funeral of James Gardiner,
father of the Hon. James Gardiner,
Premier of Saskatchewan, who died
in Victoria Hospital, London, on
Wednesday afternoon of last week,
was held • from his late residence
concession 12, Usborne Township
Friday afternoon to Rooy's cemetery
Friday would have been Mr. Gar -
diner's 69th birthday, The funeral
was one of the largest ever held in.
this district. Four years ago, Mr.
Gardiner was kicked by a' horse, a
rib penetrating his lung. A robust
man, he failed to summon a doctor
at the time and later found it nec-
essary to take treatment. A year
ago Christmas Eve, Mrs. Gardiner
fell and broke her arm, and as she
could not then care for her husband'
he was sent -to London, where he re-
mained until, his death.` Mr. Gar-
diner was born on the Hibbert Boun-
dary line, near. Farquhar, in 1857;
son of the late Robert Gardiner, who
was for many years reeve of the
township. On his marriage' to Miss
Elizabeth Brown, he -moved to Ils-
borne Township where he spent ,the
life with the ex-
ception
of his,
ception of a few years in Washing-
ton territory. Mr. Gardiner is sur-
vived by his wife, three sons, Prem-
ier James Gardiner, Saskatchewan
William, of Alberta, and Robert, of
London, and one daughter, Mrs. G.
Allan, of Woodhaan. Two sons kid-.
ward and Earl,met death at. Vitny
Ridge in the Great War. The fun-
eral services were conducted by Rev.
Mr. Cliidley, Thames Road, assisted
by Rev, Ma. Foster, Kirlcton. The"`

Dunoan, Dave Brown, Dave Gardiner,
and Peter Gardner, c,ta•usins of the de-
