Benedicts enjoy Jamaica -style wedding
BY SARAH CALDWELL
For Lisa and Mark Benedict
they wouldn't want to get
married any other way.
The couple were married on
July 12, 2001 in Jamaica. "I'd do
it again in a second," said Mark.
Before they took off to Jamaica
to be wed the couple did lots of
research about what they wanted
for their ideal day.
"We did a lot of research and
from what we found out people
were spending $15,000 on
average for a day that they didn't
enjoy," Mark said. "They were
up early, were tired by the end of
the day and most don't go on a
honeymoon afterwards," Mark
said.
By comparison their wedding
and honeymoon was all inclusive
for $3,000. They did have an
additional reception when they
returned home in October.
"It was all-inclusive, stress -
free, beautiful," Mark said. "It
was all taken care of the week
before. An hour before the
wedding I was in the pool
relaxing."
Now living in St. Thomas, Lisa
(nee Forrest) a Goderich native
and Benedict a seasonal resident
of the area, met six years ago on
the beach m July.
The couple were engaged at
the stroke of midnight on New
Year's Eve 2000.
When choosing where they
wanted to' get married they

looked at many different aspects.
Their first choice had been
Antigua. Another one of their
preferred options was to have a
wedding near the water and not
every resort is on the water.
Travel time from the airport was
also considered.
"We didn't want to be
travelling three hours to Toronto,
four hours in a plane to get there
and then take a five hour bus ride
to get to the resort," Mark said.
The wedding took place at the
Holiday Inn Sunspree Montego
Bay resort.
"It was a large resort, it was
beautiful," Mark said. "There
were lots of meals and service
and we were waited on hand and
foot. We didn't lift a finger all
week."
The Benedicts went to the
resort a couple of days before the
wedding to unwind and then
stayed there for their honeymoon.
However, there were some
details they had to worry about
that wouldn't normally be a
problem.
Birth certificates had to be sent
to the resort in advance to get
paperwork ready. They also had
to check with the airport to make
sure Lisa could take her wedding
dress on the plane as a carry on
item instead of packing it into the
luggage compartment and taking
their chances of it arriving at the
