The Seaforth Centenaires lost 4-3 against Lucan after a hard-fought game Friday night at the
Seaforth and Area Community Centres.
Cents continue fight
for play- off position
It all comes down to the
final weekend of the year for
the Seaforth Centenaires with
three games in three nights
and one point separating
third from fifth position.
Friday night, the Cents
played Lucan in their final
meeting of the season. The
teams had split the season
series thus far and both were
looking for points. A Lucan
4-3 win clinched second
place in the division for
them, while the Cents needed
to stay ahead of Mitchell and
move ahead of North
Middlesex.
The Cents were first on the
board as Cory Cunningham
tapped in Mike Murray's
rebound. In the second
period, Jake Mavity stormed
the Irish net and buried a
rebound of his own. By the
halfway point the Cents were
up 3-0 on a goal by Murray.
The Irish got on the board
late in the period leaving the
Cents with a 3-1 lead.
Looking like they had the
game under wraps, things
took a dramatic turn as
Mavity was assessed a major
penalty 10 minutes into the
final frame and, seconds
later, Murray followed him to
the sin bin, leaving the locals
two men down for four
minutes.
The writing was on the
wall as the Irish power play
went to work and evened the
game at three.
The Cents battled hard and
looked like they would be
heading to overtime until a
soft shot by the Irish took an
awkward bounce past goalie
Matt Dalton and gave Lucan
a stunning 4-3 win.
General Manager Dave
Parsons wouldn't comment
about the penalties in the
third period but said, "we
played well enough to win
tonight. The guys need to
regroup and get back on
track. We can't do anything
about it now."
Saturday, the Cents had
just the opportunity to
regroup, travelling to
Belmont against the
struggling Bombers. The

game was scoreless until late
in the first when Seaforth
struck in a flurry.
Luke Vick opened the
scoring on a power play give
and go. Adam Leonhardt sent
Scott Henderson in alone
minutes before rookie, Josh
Demo finished a three -on -
one for a three -goal first
period lead.
Midway through the
second period, Henderson
sent a flip pass to Tim
McClure who batted the
puck down with his hand
and tapped it in to put
Seaforth up 4-0. Despite
sending 53 shots at the
Bombers' goalie no more
goals were forthcoming. The
Cents were equally good
defensively limiting the
Bombers to 26 shots and
goalie Nathan Illeman
recorded the shutout.
In other conference action,
Mitchell continued their
unbeaten streak over
Lambeth moving into a tie
with Seaforth on Friday and
with both teams winning
Saturday both jumped a point
ahead of North Middlesex.
If playoffs started today,
Seaforth would finish third
and face second place Lucan,
Mitchell would face the
Exeter Hawks and Parkhill
would miss the playoffs.
However, with each team
having three games to play,
anything can still happen.
Friday, the Cents travel to
Thamesford against the
Trojans who have now
clinched first place in the
Thomas division.
Saturday Seaforth plays in
Parkhill before returning to
Seaforth for their final
regular season game, 8 p.m.
Sunday night against
Mitchell.

Fundraising Committee sincerely
thanks all of the Corporations,
Businesses, Individuals, Parents,
Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins
and Friends for helping us to raise over
$45,000 for the band's trip to Eurepe
this coming March. Your financial sup-
port has gone a long way to help offset
the cost of their exciting adventure to
London, England and Paris, France.
Without the support of all our local
communities, this dream would never
have been realized. We promise that the
band will be worthy ambassadors for
Huron County in Europe. Thank you
for helping us to "keep marching on."
