A new floor is to be laid on the
bridge on Main St. crossing the river
and while this is being done the
road will be closed. It will take two
or three days tp do the work.

requested to attend a meeting to be
held in the Canadian Bank of Com-
merce chambers on Wednesday, June
16th, at 8 p.m. sharp.
Rev. A. A. Trumper will conduct
anniversary services at Pt. Edward
on Sunday next and the services in
Trivitt church will be conducted by
Rev. Canon Gunn, of London.

Harvey, the 12 -year-old son of
John Webb, of Granton, sustained a
broken arm on Thursday evening
last when riding his bicycle. He
collided head-on with a car -driven
by Mr. N. Ogden, of Exeter. '
A district Masonic service was
held in Holy Trinity, chuneh. ' Lucan
Sunday evening at which the grand
chaplain, R. W. Bro. Canon Per-
kins of Chatham, was the preacher.
Owing to the rain .the service was
not well attended from outside
points.
Caven church was well filled last
Sunday morning when the congrega-
tion ,met for "Every Presbyterian
go to Church Sunday." This has be-
come an annual event which has
proved a great success and this
year's gathering was larger than any
former one. Rev Jas. Foote refer-
red briefly to the occasion and then •
delivered an inspiring address.
On- Sunday Mr. A. J. Penhale
noticed an object in a large maple
tree on his farm and on investiga-
tion he found that an instrument
sent out by the Meteorological Dept.
of Toronto,. had landed in the tree.
A small instrument was encased in
the centre and from several arms
small flags were attached. The in-
strument will be forwarded,. to To-
ronto. -

There was plenty of attraction on
the Main street of Exeter Saturday
evening. As a rule a large number
of people visit Exeter each Saturday
evening, it being the only open night
for stores during the week, and the
streets are usually lined with cars.
The Salvation. Army hold services
each week and in addition, last Sat-
urday evening the Plymouth Breth-
ren held a service attracting quite a
crowd while a few rods away a
couple of transient salesmen gave an
entertainment and sold various ar-
titles.
Mr. W. W. Rice, wife and family
are leaving this week for Wyoming
where they will make their home in
future. Pot two years Mr. Rice had
charge of the Libby, McNeil and
Libb,Y pickle plant at Exeter and
Hensall but the project has not met
with success and there has been no
acreage contracted for this season.
While here Mr. and Mrs, Bice, Ellen
and Marvin have made many friends
whose best wishes will follow theta.

Mr. J. G, Stanbury has been re-
tained by the Department of Health
of the Dominion Government as
special counsel in. the prosecution of
offenders against the Drug and Nar-
cotic Act. Several cases in this
locality are coming tip shortly. r

fifty' years ago: He and hie wife are
