the tournament this year.
Two weekend wins put Cents
in second place in Morenz division
With the Exeter Hawks
jumping out to a
commanding lead in the
Morenz division, the other
four teams are left battling
for second to fifth position
with only five points
between.
Friday, the Lucan Irish
came to town in the
season's first meeting with
the Cents.
The Irish (four wins,
seven losses, two ties)
came in two points ahead of
Seaforth (four wins, nine
losses, zero ties), and tied
with North Middlesex (five
wins, nine losses, zero ties)
for second in the division.
Five of. the Cents' next
six games are against
Morenz division teams.
Steve Henderson opened
the scoring for Seaforth at
16:21 of the first as he flew
down the left wing beating
an Irish defender and
cutting across the Lucan net
flipping in a backhander as
he was being hauled down
from behind.
The Cents went up 2-0 as
a cross ice pass deflected
off an Irish defender into
their own net.
Seaforth opened up a 4-1
lead before Tyler Doig fired
a one -timer from the slot on
the power play to close out
the period.
Scott Henderson added a
second period goal as the
teams exchanged markers.
The Irish capitalized on a
couple of Centenaires
mistakes and narrowed the
margin to,6-4 but could not
get any closer.
Mike Murray notched one
more for the locals as he
streaked in the back door
on a pass by Scott
Henderson for another
powerplay tally. Coach
Jason Papple was happy
with the win but still
critical of some costly
Seaforth mistakes.
"We became a little
complacent with the lead,
and our defensive zone play
was questionable at times,
but the effort was there and
special teams and offensive
zone play worked well
tonight." said coach Jason
Seaforth Centenaires
Papple.
A large crowd visited the
blue line club after the
game for the "annual "Meet
the Player Night."
Saturday, the Cents
looked to post back-to-back
wins for the first time this
season in a rematch with
the Port Stanley Lakers.
The Cents got ofd flat and
the Lakers were awarded a
penalty shot just 13 seconds
into the game, which was
thwarted by goalie Nathan
Illeman.
The Lakers managed to
score a minute later but the
Cents answered right back
as Luke Vick slipped
through his check and
found Tyler Doig in the slot
to even the score.
The Laker powerplay
struck twice in the second
to take a 3-1 lead but
Seaforth had numerous
chances.
With two minutes to go in
the period, Jay Baker
jumped on a loose puck
along the Laker goal line
and with one second left in
the period, Scott Henderson
fired the equalizer from the
top of the circles to close
the second, tied at two.
The Cents grabbed the
lead on a third period
powerplay as Doig captured
his second goal of the
game.
The Lakers slipped past
the Cents defence late in
the game and netted the
tying goal to send Seaforth
to overtime for the first
time this season.
Just 15 seconds into
overtime, Jamie Black sent
a long lead pass to Scott
Henderson streaking across
the blue line, Henderson
caught the Lakers goalie
sliding the wrong way and
buried a wrist -shot from
just inside the blue line.
The Cents' bench erupted
in celebration as the team
captured all four points up
for grabs this weekend.
General Manager, Dave
Parsons praised the efforts
of the team.
"We're getting there. We
just need these efforts more
consistently. Lots of guys
are stepping up and getting
