grief?
A. Everyone experiences grief differently and there are very
wide ranges of "normal" behaviours. Some report feelings of

Jamco adds agricultural
spraying division to business
By Clint Haggart
Clinton News -Record Staff
In the early 1970s, John
MacLellan began building
trailers in his brother-in-
law's shop. This year, the
resulting company, Jamco, is
expanding and adding Spray
Tech, a new division that
provides agricultural
spraying equipment.
When Ag -Chem
Equipment. Co. Inc., a
division of AgCo, closed its
operations in Hensall,
employee Brian Talbot began
working at Jamco, as a parts
salesperson, said Bob
Wilson.
Talbot had previous
experience with spraying
equipment, said Wilson,
inventory manager at Jamco,
adding, "That's when we
decided to diversify."
Spray Tech will be a retail
outlet for foams, nozzles,
fittings, hose, pumps and
other spraying equipment,
said Wilson. He added that
Jamco does not sell the
chemicals for spraying.
"This area is One of the
leading areas for crops and
agriculture, so there is a
definite need," Wilson said
about adding Spray Tech to
Jamco, which is a division of
MacLellan Welding.
According to Wilson.
starting Spray Tech in
September allows the
company a "little bit of
room" to prepare for the
spring. He added that there is
some business for spray
equipment in the fall.
The addition of Spray
Tech to Jamco is one of the
many additions that have
been made since John
MacLellan started the
business in the '70s.
MacLellan moved the
trailer building business to
the property in Brucefield,
said Wilson, adding that
there was a 2,400 square foot
shop to build in.
Today, the Jamco property
contains 51,000 square feet
of buildings and it is still
expanding, Wilson said.
According to Bernie
Maclellan, son of the Jamco
founder, there are new
offices in the front, a new
parts area that is four times
the size it used to be and a
new lunch/washroom will be
open to about 55 employees,
not counting the sales staff.
An 8,000 square foot
building is being added to the
manufacturing plant and
MacLellan said robotics will
be in the addition by mid-
December to assist in
manufacturing trailers.
Although Jamco started
building steel trailers,
MacLellan said the company
began building aluminum
trailers around 1980 to offer
customers another option.
Around 1983, he said,
Jamco designed the tongue
and groove tubing wall and
patented it. "It's the biggest
reason were so successful in
the market," he added.
The tubing, he explained,
minimizes the amount of
welding required in a trailer.
Since welding makes stress
points in the trailer, the
tubing makes it more
durable.
So durable, in fact,
MacLellan said some
customers write to thank the

company because the durable
trailers saved horses in car
accidents.
Several American
publications, he continued,
have rated Jamco trailers first
in quality and strength.
MacLellan said that the
other major trailer
manufacturers build trailers
like Jamco did before the
tongue and groove tubing
was used. He added that
there are thousands of welds
in trailers made like that.
Eight years ago,
MacLellan said, Trailcorp, of
Seaforth, started marketing
Jamco' trailers. "It's a benefit
to the customer," he said,
adding that it made it
possible for the sales staff at
Trailcorp and the
manufacturers to give the
customer what they want.
"It's been a big increase to
the business," MacLellan
said, adding that business has
doubled since Jan. 1 and is
expected to double again by
March.
The expansions aren't
expected to stop. MacLellan
said Jamco is already
mapping out future
expansions. He added that
there is no timeline for these
expansions to be built.
Both MacLellan and
Wilson said adding Spray
Tech to Jamco is a good
marriage of business.
MacLellan explained that
the busy season for trailers is
the slow season for Spray
Tech, and vice -versa. He
said staff will be able to help
each other better.
"What we're looking for
is better service for thc
customer," MacLellan said
about the continued
expansions.
Flu vaccine
offered
free again
Head aches, dry coughs,
muscle aches and pain, chills,
sweating, fever are some of
the symptoms of a
communicable disease, which
has killed tcns of millions of
people in the last century.
This killer, which preys on
the weak, the children and the
elderly, has caused the death
of as many as 500,000 people
worldwide since 1980.
Without our only defense, a
vaccination, influenza would
be an unparalleled killer.
According to Shirley
Chalmers, of the Huron
County Health Unit, it is
important to get the vaccine
each year.
Evidence of the vaccine's
effectiveness was evident in
Huron County last flu season,
said Chalmers, as only five
cases were reported.
Although thc influenza may
not affect young healthy
people seriously, Chalmers
explained it is still important
to get the vaccine because the
flu can be transmitted to
someone who would severely
suffer from it.
The vaccine for the flu is
free in Ontario and can be
administered at a doctor's
office, community clinics
offered by hospitals or at the
Huron County Health Unit.
For more information
about the flu or its vaccine,
call the Health Unit at 482-
3416.
