Fiddlers performing in concert for cancer

All 10 of the local
musicians performing in a
fiddlers' jamboree at the
Seaforth Fall Fair on
Saturday have had cancer
touch them, their families
and friends.
That's one of the reasons
they're participating in the
fundraiser, along with
headliner Christina Doyle, an
up-and-coming country
singer who survived the bone
cancer that killed Terry Fox,
for the local Canadian
Cancer Society.
In fact, most of them
played recently at the funeral
of Lou Rowland, of Dublin,
who was an active member
of the fiddlers' group until
his death in mid-August.
"Lou played up to a month
before he died of brain
cancer," says group member
Tom Melady.
"He knew he was dying
and very much knew that he
was playing to contribute to
his happiness and the
happiness of others. You
could say this is a tribute to
the memory of a fallen friend
and musician," says Melady.
Rowland's 18 -year-old
granddaughter, Keilan
Murtha, of Listowel, who has
