The Centenaires have
worked out a deal with
the Seaforth and District
Community Centres that
will see the Junior D
team on the ice this
season.
"It gives us a little
more time for survival,"
said general manager
Dave Parsons.
The team is faced with
a $15,000 debt, almost
half of which was owed
to the arena for ice time
last season after making
less than $5,000 from
fans attending home

Van Egmond Foundation seeks
donations for repairs to house
By Susan Hundertmork
Expositor Staff
Last summer's rainy
weather caused damages to
the interior of the historic
Van Egmond House and,
while its foundation is asking
the public for help, none of
the organizers are sure yet
how much money the repairs
are going to cost.
Foundation member
Gladys Van Egmond says 31
gallons of paint are going to
be needed to redecorate the
walls of most of the house,
which peeled after rain
absorbed through the porous
brick of the house last
summer.
"I hate to make a quotation
because we don't know how
much the labour will cost yet
to paint the house," she says.
Foundation chair Vivian
Newnham says 100 letters
have been sent out to local
businesses and the general
public, asking for financial
help.
"It's a letter we were going
to send out before last
Christmas but we're all
volunteers and it didn't get
done," she says.
Assistant curator and
summer student Kyle Rea
says two rooms in particular
on the south side of the house
facing Centre Street in
Egmondville were damaged.
"Most of the plaster is
intact but the entire interior
needs to be repainted in
historic colours," he says.
The brickwork above the
windows was treated with
silicone in early spring to
prevent more rain from
getting in, says Rea.
Van Egmond says the
foundation spent $6,000 this
spring to repoint the brick
work and fix the outside of
the house.
"It was a major job. If we
hadn't fixed the outside there
wouldn't be much sense in
fixing the inside when the
dampness could still come
through," she says.
She says "major work"
remains to be done inside the
house.
Almost the entire house,
including three downstairs
rooms, especially the parlour,
two hallways and four
upstairs rooms need to be
repainted. In the "Madam's
