You did so many things for us.

some time in Regina,
Saskatchewan, serving as the
regional supervisor for the
Westem Division of the
Ursaline Order of Sisters.
Upon retiring The Pines,
Sister Marietta supervised the
billeting there for conferences
held in the area. Sister Marietta
presently works with patients
suffering from multiple
sclerosis.
Annie Cronin celebrated her
80th birthday surrounded by
her family, relatives,
neighbours and friends at an

Since our volunteer base is with its annual show and sale,
quite small, the future of the has been a popular event for
fair is questionable if we the youth since it started 49
cannot get helpers and a years ago. The calves are
meeting is planned for Aug. bought before Nov. 1 if the
20. fair continues.
The Hensall Fair, which is
held in June, has events for
every age group. it is a great
opportunity for young people
to exhibit their school work
and participate in the many
activities at the fair. A mini
pedal tractor pull, a pet show,
and showing and selling
calves, lambs and swine are a
few of the events for area
youth. For the past three
years, the Bluewater Tug of
War Team have organized
and supported an elementary
school challenge with
approximately 120 students
participating.
The Hensall Calf Club,
Other events, such as team
penning, horseshoe pitching
and the homecraft division to
list a few, are of interest to
our adult sector.
There is a lot of potential
for the Hensall Fair, if
enough people are willing to
work together, but the fair
cannot continue with only a
handful of volunteers.
Come out to the public
meeting which will be held
Aug. 20 at 8 p.m. at the
Hensall Community Centre.
If you would like to see the
Hensall Fair continue, come
out, show your support and
bring your ideas.

Working conditions
remain under watch
as teacher -load
remains high
From Pogo 1
battle with teachers' unions, the government allowed boards
to include remedial, supervisory and on-call duties as teacher
time in thcir collective agreements.
"We moved on it at this time because we wanted to be able
to let the principals work out their timetables for the
schools," the board chair said.
Teachers could potentially now have less class time,
freeing up time for extra -curricular supervisory duties. Last
year, due to a legislative increase in classroom requirements,
such activities were absent from some districts and were
considerably limited in the Avon Maitland board.
District 8 president Bill Huzar cautions teachers could still
face considerable time limitations, especially if they have to
deal with thc implementation of the new four-year high
school curriculum.
"My concern still -- and I still express it to them, like I
expressed it to them all last year -- is maintaining their
personal health and that they arc able to fulfill thcir
professional curriculum responsibilities."
Huzar notes that thc interim agreement remains in effect
only while thc union's current collective agreement remains
in force. The priority now becomes negotiations to replace
thc current one-year deal, and Huzar says difficult issues still
face the two parties.
"Wc have real difficulty with the government's workload
conditions," he stated. "1995 and 2001 arc completely
different worlds in terms of thc work that teachers are asked
to perform and the conditions under which they're asked to
do it."
Though the board, isn't directly involved in the
coordination of extra -curricular activities, Anderson is
confident there's enough time prior to the beginning of
school to provide a full range of opportunities for students.
