Blyth's Cruel Tears
billed as `country
and western opera'
The Blyth Festival bursts into song with this year's
Canadian Classic Cruel Tears by Ken Mitchell and
Humphrey and the Dumptrucks.
It's "country and western opera" as a daring young truck
driver woos his boss's 'daughter only to find jealousy and
betrayal round the bend of a dangerous road.
Critics described Cruel Tears as "an astonishing
theatrical event" when it toured across Canada in 197(
and it will be.equally fabulous when Blyth's Associate
Artistic Director Eric Coates (The Drawer Boy) revives
this toe-tappin' handkerchief-wringin' musical.
Cruel Tears features an incredible cast of actors/singers
including Adrian Churchill, Beverley Elliott (Booze Days
in a Dry County), Michelle Fisk (That Summer. Thirteen
Hands), Mark Harapiak, Tim Koetting. Christopher
Morris (Death of the Hired Man). Eric Trask. and
Adrienne Wilson (That Summer).
Michael Taylor (Many Hands), Jeff Laughton and Glen
Soulis provide the music for this production.
The design team consists of Allan Wilhee as Set and
Costume Designer, and Louise Guinand as Lighting
Designer.
Cruel Tears opens on Friday. July 13. and it clyses on
Sept. 2.
