For those that couldn't make it to see the
Rock Slinger and his Greatest Hit, you really
missed out on a wonderful performance. To
see thc Hall transformed from just a huilding
into a desert scene with painted palm trees
on the walls and real palm trees up front and
a backdrop that was truly a piece of art, was
really something. One person attending
thought the play would be a little kids'
production and he spent his $5 as a donation.
He quickly changed his mind and couldn't
get over how well it was done.
Thc crowd clapped enthusiastically and
gave the cast members a standing ovation for
the production directed by Brian Black and
produced by Patty Banks. Thc production
included many community members
including Thea Rijkhoff, producing the
posters, tickets and programs; Audrey
Hackwcll, Kathleen Williamson, Brandy
Leslie, Heidi McClure, Gloria Wilbce, Marie
Coutts, Judy Lee working on costumes;
Chris Lee and Marie McGavin promotions;
Gloria Wilbce sound; Jack Clarke, Val
Gillies Clarke, Jim Cook, Geoff Banks and
Bill Humphries, set construction; Heidi
McClure, Judy Emmrich, Judy Lee, Shelley
McGavin, Gloria Wilbee, stage crew; Neil
McGavin, camera man; Marie Joan
Tucklinsky, prompter; The McGavin moving
crew; Kathleen Williamson, refreshment
coordinator; thc Walton Hall Board for thc
use of the huilding; Duff's United Church
funding and rehearsal space; Helen Brenie
and JoanTucklinsky and Heidi McClure for
taking tickets at the door.
Proceeds from the musical go to paying ofI
a loan from the church and to pay other hills
and the extra will go to Rural Response for
Healthy Children.
It was an incredible time that I'm sure no
one will forget for a long time. I know that
some of the songs will still he ringing in
people's heads. The troop have an
opportunity to take their show on the road to
Brussels in September, Broadway, here they
come.
Brian Black of Walton worked tirelessly
with the kids teaching them the songs, the
intricate dance steps and thc acting.
