opened for the
summer season on
Seaforth Lawn Bowling Club
May 21 with lawn
bowling at 2 p.m. followed by a pot luck
supper at 5:30 p.m. for more than 30
members and associates.
President Neil Beuerman welcomed all
present and gave a special welcome to
Rishma Kassam, a co-op student from
Guelph University who is presently working
at the Seaforth Creamery in production
development. While she is in Seaforth she is
residing at Isabelle Hunt's.
Thank you cards had been received by the
club for the memorial donations the club had
given in memory of Katie Phillips and Art
Finlayson, two former long-time members of
the club. Neil also expressed that a special
effort is being put forth this year to recruit
new members for the club and try to interest
'new people to the game of lawn bowls.
An Open House is being held on
Wednesday, June 6 and June 13 at 7:30 p.m.
for beginners. We hope people will take
advantage of these evenings and members
will be present to answer questions about the
game and also
assist in trying out
the game of lawn
bowls.
Following
supper on opening day, euchre was played in
the club house and winners were: white
cards, high, Robert McMillan; lone hands,
Lloyd Eisler; Consolation - Rishma Kassam;
yellow cards, high, Robert Argyle; lone
hands, Isabelle Hunt; consolation, Mary
McClure. Hosting for the evening were Jack
and Marie Muir. The next social will be June
26 with supper at 6 p.m. and cards and
bowling after. Hostesses will be Bea Stoll
and Mary Finlayson.
Bowling at the Thistle Club in London on
May 24, the fours entry of Fred and Betty
Tilley and Erich and Joyce Matzold won the
consolation prize.
At Clinton Bankers Tournament Saturday,
Jack and Marie Muir won second place. The
tournament had to be called at the end of 1
1/2 games due to rain.
Our sympathy goes out to members of the
Habkirk family in the loss of May Habkirk,
another former member for many years of the
Seaforth Lawn Bowling Club.
