Are YOU the one?
Javier, Emilie and David, along with 50
other young teens, aged 13-18, from
Europe will be. arriving in Ontario June 28
as part of their 4 -week summer cultural
exchange program and they have nowhere
to stay.
We are urgently in need of the Canadian spirit of hospitality to wel-
come these young people - good students with a desire to improve
their English and share a bit of their own country with their Canadian
friends. A second group of 50 more participants, also under the aus-
pices of Nacel Canada Inc., a non-profit organization, will arrive on
August 2.
The students are seeking an immersion experience, so host families
must speak English as their primary language. Since they don't attend
any classes, they participate in your daily family activities and are free
to go on camping trips or on vacation with you. We match students
with families who have similar interests. Although host families are
volunteers, a small honorarium is offered. The students bring pocket
money to pay for admission fees and other personal expenses. They
are also fully covered by insurance for accidents or illness. There are
chaperones and local Nacel reps available to help out should any prob-
lems arise.
What can YOU do to help? If your family has a spare bed (a room
shared with a sibling of the same gender is fine) and an interest in
sharing your way of life with a new friend this summer, please call
Emmy Bortolin at 519-869-6919 (Sarnia) or toll-free 1-800-665-6223.
All students must be placed by June 1, so please call NOW.

Leitch had been pitched to
Huron East Mayor Lin
Sterner who brought it up for
discussion at council's May
15 meeting, last week.
Prior to approving his
appointment to the
committee, council held a
brief discussion about who
should sit on the committee.
"I have every confidence is
his abilities," said Seaforth
Ward Coun. Dick Burgess of
Leitch.
Burgess .was also an active
community member in last
year's struggle to keep thc
school open and councillors
wondered if Burgess should
be council's representative
on the committee.
Burgess, who stressed the
need of keeping a high
school to help ,make a
stronger Huron East, said he
would be willing to serve the
committee if that was
council's wish.
However, the boundaries
for a second accommodation
study committee extend into
the northern parts of Huron
East, affecting Grey Central
Public School and Brussels
Public School.
Council decided to appoint
Leitch to the West Central
Study Area and Burgess to
the North Study Area with
the two able to work together
in conjunction with council.
