Senior Games
Bowling
About 15 local seniors took
part in the Senior Games
bowling last Friday at the
Starlight lanes in Seaforth.

The Seaforth and District
Skating Club continued its
50th anniversary
celebrations with its first
annual awards banquet.
It was held April 22 at
the Seaforth and District
Community Centres. There.
was a great turnout with
approximately 75 skaters,
parents and grandparents.
We welcomed everyone
and then introduced our
guest speakers Bev and
Lloyd Eisler, parents of
Olympic Figure Skater,
Lloyd Eisler Jr. We could
not have had a more fitting
couple for our first awards
banquet. Bev was the first
to speak. Her focus was on
all of the people that have
helped Lloyd Jr. to
accomplish the great things
he has.
Education was very
important. Few people
actually make it to the top
of their sport, and even
then, an education is still
needed. She credits Lloyd
Jr.'s best friends and the
local high school for
making sure he always had
his work.
This enabled him to
graduate. She also paid
tribute to Seaforth, its
residents and to the local
Legion for making their life
so much easier.
But the one person who
sacrificed the most was
Lloyd himself. You must
give up a lot of things such
as school dances, sports and
parties. Most teenagers
would find this a difficult
thing to do. He did manage
to be a part of the high
school golf team, a sport he
still enjoys today.
Lloyd Sr. then spoke
about being there for your
children. When they look
up into the stands, it is their
parents they want to see no
matter what their age.
He also spoke of all of
the wonderful people they
have met from all over the
world, many who they still
talk to.
Their home is always
open to Lloyd Jr.'s
friends and it is not
uncommon for them
to come home to
find people,
whether they are
storm -stayed or
have just dropped in
for a visit.
He also talked
about making sure
that young people
that wish to play
hockey or ice sports
spend at least a
couple of years in a
learn to skate
program. The
difference in their
skating ability is
easily recognizable.
This is how Lloyd Jr. got
into figure skating. He
wanted to play hockey and
his parents insisted that he
join figure skating to learn
to skate before he put a
stick in his hands and the
rest is history.
His message was not to
force your children to play
a sport but if it is their
wish, then support them all
of the way.
They are lucky to have
such a talented skater, but I
believe that Lloyd Jr. is the
lucky one.
A certificate was given
to each skater as well as
"most improved skater
awards" for each level.
We also added a new
award this year for our most
sportsmanlike skater.
Trent Ward and his
family, owners of Ice
Dreams, presented an award
this year for the most
dedicated skater. We then
presented our coaching
assistants with skating bags
with matching garment
bags, and to the coaches we
gave bouquets of Flowers.
Stacey Dayman presented
the executive with flowers
for all of their support as
she works on achieving her
Level 1 coaching
certificate. The Lloyd Eisler
Jr. bursary award was
presented. Jennifer Dick
was presented with a

porcelain doll for her
contribution to the skating

Jenn is leaving for
college this fall. A beautiful
skating print was given to
Anne Dayman.
We discussed some new
fundraising ideas for the
upcoming season and then
cut into a beautifully
decorated cake.
