Visiting was enjoyed along with fabulous food, prepared by "the chefs" and their helpers. "The chefs," will be hand at work again on May 6. A social time is planned after Mass in St. Columban, during which "Bacon on a Bun," coffee and juice will be available. Everyone is welcome to attend. Jean Van Drunen has returned from a recent visit with her daughter, Joanne and Bruce Pratt in Windemere, Florida (near Orlando). Jean reports that the weather was just beautiful, warm and sunny. The Grade 7 and 8 students at St. Columban School enjoyed their confirmation retreat day this past week. The retreat day is in preparation for confirmation, which they will receive in Dublin on May 1. The day was facilitated by Father Moe Charbonneau along with teachers, Mrs. Waechter, Mr. Haig and Mrs. Petrasek. Rosemary Terpstra gave a presentation to the students about "service" during which she talked about her trip to help build schools. They take with them many items of clothing and other useful items which are given to the people there. The young people also participated in ice breakers, group sessions, prayers, pizza and making a confirmation album and name tags. The St. Columban School boy's and girl's basketball teams each placed second in the system -wide basketball tournament held on Wednesday in Stratford. Mrs. Waechter's class also participated in the Kiwanis Music Festival in the Choral Speaking and came first in its division. By M Ry 345 ary C. an -2560 Rem Murray represents Canada on world hockey team A Dublin native and former Stratford Culliton Rem Dublin Murray is representing Canada on the world hockey team. Murray, an Edmonton Oiler was chosen among other very special players. This 28 -year-old Dublin native will play his first world championship. We are deeply saddened by the death of a former Dublin man, Antonius (Tony) Loomans who died on April 27 and whose funeral was held at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Mitchell, on April 30. Happy 4th birthday to Christopher Shewan, son of Pam and Steve Shewan, Dublin, who celebrated April 29. THOUGHT FOR TODAY What's the biggest jewel in the world? The baseball diamond. April marked Members of the band included Maplewood Manor Nursing Home the end of our Easter penny sale. It was an exciting afternoon as residents gathered to take part in the draws. Betty Harris and Barbara Scott were craft volunteers for the event. Flowers, ribbons and all the trimmings were on hand for residents to decorate their hats for our Easter bonnet contest. Judging was not easy, but Herta Brodhagen was named the winner. Ruth Wallace managed to collect the most eggs during the Easter egg hunt. Elgin Nott came in second place. During the Easter season, Rev. Macgregor, Rev. Springett, Rev. Vandermey and Bob Hulley led in worship service. Warm, sunny days prompted us to have ice cream parlour where residents were treated to sundaes and banana splits with all the trimmings. The ladies of Maplewood were pampered when Margaret Whitmore came to do manicures. Their hands and nails looked beautiful. Residents enjoyed an afternoon of music Rena Young, Andrew Patrick, Bill Albert, Ivan Norris and John Zettel. Horticulture club with Eleanor Horst was busy transplanting plants that were started earlier in the spring. We are eager to see them planted outside. Residents were delighted with the flowers and•cookies that they received from the Confirmation study group who came for a visit. Residents enjoyed their weekly games of bingo with Helen MacKenzie and were treated to chocolate ducklings as special prizes for Easter. Crokinole has become a very popular game at Maplewood because of the help of our volunteers. They include Peggy and Charlie Perkins, Helen MacKenzie, Velma Preszcator and Beth Pryce. We are looking forward to the Senior Games Crokinole to be held at Maplewood Manor on May 7 at 10:30 a.m. Geri Fashions will also be at Maplewood on May 11 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Kippen East W.I. hears annual committee reports Kippen East Women 's Institute met at the home of meeting will be held at Thames Road Church on May 17. The ROSE program will be held Oct. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Exeter United Church with everyone welcome. Our planning meeting will be May 1 at Grace Drummond's home. The Video Links (Literary Neighbours) was shown and a great discussion followed. A skit, "What Socialized Medicine is Leading to in England," was presented by Phyllis Parsons and Mona Alderdice. The evening ended with a bountiful lunch served by Phyllis Parsons and Dorothy Cooper. Kippen East W.I. Mona Alderdice for its annual meeting in April. Grace Drummond welcomed everyone and read a poem, "Women God Bless Them." Seven members answered the roll call, "Name something you would like to learn how to do."
