A severe sleet storm passed over this district on Wednesday last, doing considerable damage to the electric and telephone lines. The hydro was off all day Wednesday but came on again in the evening. The regular meeting of the Young People's League of the United church was held on Monday evening. The meeting was in charge and was pre- sided over by Miss. Flora • Higgins. ra read The. scripture lesson wee by Miss Grace Forest. Mr. Skinner very 'ably gave the topic on "Conse- cration." A solo by Mr. W. 0. Goodwin; violin solo by Marjorie Pearce;, instrumental duet by , Mrs. Hoggarth. and Miss, Jean Campbell; instrumental by Miss Gladys Tinker and a solo by Master Harold Hig- gins were all greatly enjoyed. Mr. Angus Morrison and family left on. Friday morning for Luck - now were Mr. Morrison will work on a dairy farm. Since coming to Hensall Mr. Morrison has been en- gaged by Owen Geiger & Son, but. before coming hera-he was an ext nerienced dairyman in Scotland. A number of farmers in this dis- trict are allowing their cattle to -get in very poor condition, owing to scarcity of feed. One farmer west of here has allowed five to die from neglect and starvation. His case is being looked after by the author- ities. At a meeting of the Library Board on Saturday evening last Mrs. Jas. Patterson, who has acted as Librarian for a number of years handed in her resignation. The resignation was accepted, and the board decided to ask for tenders to fill the position. Tenders will be received by Mr. Wm. McKay up till Monday, April 12th, when they will be opened and a new Librarian ap- pointed. Our Spring show which was to have taken place on Tuesday, April 6th has been postponed till Tuesday April 13th on account of bad weath- er. Owing to the difficulty in gett- ing in touch with the judges, who were appointed to judge the -horses, 'they were not notified and arrived in town Tuesday to go ahead with the show. Dr. Baker, of Toronto, was here to judge the heavy horses, and Mr. H. J. Darrock, of Listowel, to judge the light horses. Large congregations enjoyed the Easter services in the local <church- es on Sunday, when special sermons and .'special music were given. At 'the'thiited church which was crowd- ed 'rat 'both' services the choir gave, special Easter, music. I;n the morn- ing 'a number of selections were given by the choir, also a duet by Mrs. Sinclair and Mrs. Hedden and a male quartette by Mr. Lindenfieid Mr. Cook, Mr. Follick and Mr. Pass- more; while in the evening a duet was given by Mr. Goodwin and Mr. Sam. Rennie, and a quartette) by Mrs. Sinclair, Mrs. Drysdale, Miss Viola Higgins and Miss Nellie Boyle. The pastor, ' Rev. Arthur Sinclair, preached at both services.' A congregational meeting was held in the Chiselhurst United church Wednesday evening when the work for the year was reviewed. The congregation is in a very flour- ishing condition. Tlie young people of: the congregation undertook to paint and decorate the interior of the church and they succeeded in raising the tatal cost, amounting to $240. Mr. Troy- er was a life-long resident of this vicinity, hayingfarmed a good many years on the seventh concession of Hay. Some years ago he, sold his farm and he and Mrs, Troyer re- tired to Hillsgreen. Besides his, sorrowing wife he leaves to mourn his loss, one daughter, Mrs, James Jarrott, of Bridden. Tho 'funeral, which was largely attended, took place from his late home at Hills - green. on Tuesday ,afternoon, inter- ment at Hensall Union cemetery.. Mrs; George ;Hudson of town, is a niece of the deceased. Friday morning. Mr. Taylor was well known ,in this vicinity, having land on the 'third concession of Hay and has lived for some time with Dr. Moir.. He leaves to mourn his loss, three nieces and one nephew, Mrs. Rex. Dick, of Usborne; Mrs. Harvey and Miss Jennie Taylor, of London, and 'Mt. Orval Taylor, of. Hay. The. funeral took ploce on Monday afternoon from the resi- dence of Mr, Orval Taylor, • inter- ment in Hensall • Union cemetery. COUNCIL MEETING The regular monthly meeting of the, Council was held on Tuesday evening. All the members were present with the reeve in the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read I and adopted on motion of Higgins and McArthur: Mr. Geo. Hudson caretaker of the Hall, com- plained about the amount of wax being put on the floor during dances. was instructed by the council to in- form those who wished to have wax put on the floor they were to pur- chase it themselves, and that he was to put on the amount he saw fit. It was decided to rent the three acres of park ground to Mr. Richard Welsh for pasturage at the same price as last year, $34:50, on motion of Cain - bell and Priest: A number of :ac- counts were presented and ordered paid. Reeve Geiger "and Councillor McArthur were appointed a commit- tee to see about getting the snow and water off the main street. Rev. Mr. Naylor handed in his resignation as member of the Library Board. It was moved by Robt. Higgins, sec- onded by Jas. Priest that the resig- nation' be notaccepted, as the coun- cil 'wished him' to still continue on the board.
