14 -THE HURON EXPOSITOR, � Week 111, lf01 •I4•tea• +..H• Sports Farmerettes win Ontario elite ladies' championship over weekend' in Waterloo The Farmerette Ladies Broomball team, formerly of the Seaforth-Egmondville Broomball League, won the Ontario Provincial Elite Ladies' Championship this past weekend in Waterloo. This is the first time in several decades that a -team from the Central West division of Ontario has been successful in winning the title, as Eastern teams have dominated for many years in succession. Members of the team include Janice Finlayson, Teresa Finlayson, Jessica Finlayson, Donna Arts, Barb Elliott, Vicki King, Louise Marshall, Susan O'Dell, Lynda Sauve, Patti Jo McIntosh, Heather Wallis. Chyrille Lehman, Amanda Smith, Sheila Walker, Patti Dobbin, Cheryl McLachlan, Patricia Brulotte, Nicole Kerr, Joanne Gibson and coaching staff, Rob Watson -McKenzie, Georgina Reynolds and Jim Bomhof. Named to the second all star team were Janice Finlayson and Heather Wallis. Vicki King, Chyrille Lehman and Rob Watson - McKenzie (coach) were named to the first all star team. The win qualifies the Farmerettes to play in the National Championships in 2002 in Ottawa. Seaforth Hitmen play in national juvenile broomball championship The Seaforth Hitmen take to the ice next Thursday as the National Juvenile Broomball Championship takes place in Palmerston from March 28 to March 31. Representing Ontario, the Hitmen have their first game March 29 at 9 a.m. game against Newfoundland on a rink in neighbouring Arthur. While the team includes players from around the area, Seaforth players include, Adam Koehler, Scott McNaughton, Jeremy Phelan and Trevor Ward. They're back in Palmerston for a 10:05 p.m. game against Manitoba and play their third game again in Arthur on March 30 at 9 a.m. against Quebec before semi finals rounds begin that afternoon, followed by championship games on Correspondents St. Patrick's party is highlight of the week Queensway Nursing Home The highlight of the week was definitely the St. Patrick's,party with "the staff old tyme dance band" composed of Ivan Norris, George Mathonia, Bill Albert, Jim Delaney, Andrew Patrick and Jim and Rena Young. They were at Queensway, not just to entertain for the St. Patrick's Party, but also to help Kay Cooper, wife of resident Ray Cooper, celebrate her 80th birthday. More than thirty of Ray and Kay's family and friends came to Queensway for the party. Kay's family brought in a beautiful birthday cake. Kiwi juice, shamrock cookies and fruit salad made of honeydew melon, green grapes and kiwi fruit was also served. Everyone had a wonderful time listening and dancing to the lively music. Auxiliary volunteer Edna Dietz and student volunteer Jenn Timmermans and her friend assisted. Hensall Legion Ladies Auxiliary members provided assistance and prizes for residents at the bingo on Monday afternoon. Tuesday's church service was led by Rev. Bob Biggar of the Ontario Street United Church in Clinton with Bclva Fuss as pianist. Staff member Kim Mostrey and volunteer, Edna Dietz escorted two retirement home residents to the Hensall United Church dining for seniors' program Thursday at noon. Friday evening Marie Flynn played piano for everyone's enjoyment in the retirement home lounge. March 31 in Palmerston. Junior broomball was started in Palmerston in 1985 and features players between the ages of six and 19. The Posse, one of the host teams from Palmerston, won the 1999 Canadian Championships. The host girls team, The Assassins, while based in Palmerston also have several players from the Seaforth and Clinton areas and are also playing in the tournament. Their first game is March 28 at 7 p.m. against a Quebec team. They play again March 29 at 8 a.m. against Ontario's Seaway Valley Devils, at 7:05�4t p.m. against Saskatchewan and on March 30 at 11:10 a.m. against Newfoundland.
