Belinda Gibbons works with her dog, Amelia as they walk
through an obstacle course of distractions aimed at getting
Amelia's attention. The task tests Belinda's ability to command
Amelia's attention with the words, leave it,' if the dog tried to
go to one of the objects.

Craig Nigh faces his dog, Harley during a session of
obedience school at the Seaforth and District Community
Centres as Alex and Anita Hansen, the instructors, watch at
how well Harley obeys a command to stay where he is sitting.
(below) Craig Cronin and Dakota work together as Dakota
learns commands from sitting and laying down to staying still
and coming when called. The latest session, offered at
different times throughout the year, wrapped up this week
and gives dog owners a chance to work on basic commands
with their dogs.

Bluewater will receive some money
from Ontario Superbuild Corporation
By Nellie Evans
Lakeshore Advance Editor
An unknown amount of
money will be awarded
this Friday morning to the
Municipality of Bluewater
from the Ontario
Superbuild Corporation.
At 11 p.m. Monday night,
the end of the last regular
council meeting of the
year, Administrator Janisse
Zimmerman announced
she received a phone call
from Huron Bruce MPP
Helen Johns that money is
forthcoming. But the
amount is a secret until
11:30 a.m. Friday. The
presentation will be made
at the Zurich Community
Centre.
Mayor Bill Dowson
turned in his seat to ask
Zimmerman if she had
trouble keeping that a
secret during the meeting.
Eleven months ago, the
municipality applied to
Superbuild for $1.7
million in funding to fix
health and safety concerns
at its four community
centres in Bayfield,
Hensall, Varna and Zurich.
Zimmerman said federal
funding is also coming
with each of three levels of
government contributing
one-third each.
In other business,
Zimmerman announced the
Bluewater municipal office
in Zurich will be closed
for vacation between
Christmas Day and New
Year's Day.
Water meters in
apartment buildings
Council passed a motion
announcing that water
meters will be installed in
all apartment buildings in
the municipality effective
Jan. 1, 2002 and that the
building owner is
responsible for accepting
the billing of water costs.
Zimmerman told council
new water rates haven't
been established but will
be in January, well before
the first bill goes out in
March.
A letter to this effect will
be mailed to landlords.
