Huron Expositor, 2001-10-10, Page 1212 --THE HURON EXPOSITOR, Octob.r 10, 2001 Sports Thamesford powerplay goal creates 5-4 win against Cents Friday night "Robbed," was the most heard word at the arena Friday night as fans left, stunned after a Cent enaires disappointing Centenaire loss. Those feelings, reflecting what most thought to be a cheap bench minor penalty called against the locals, giving Thamesford a powerplay on which they were able to score the winner. The call came just minutes after, what appeared to be the go-ahead goal, was scored by Seaforth, but called back on a delayed penalty where Thamesford never seemed to gain control of the puck, and in response to a verbal outburst over a blatant two-handed slash to a Seaforth player. "I'm still not sure who was guilty of the penalty from our bench," said coach Jason Papple, "the whole arena was yelling for a call on that slash, us included. It was just bad timing in a 4-4 game with four minutes to go to choose to make that call." It was a game that looked early like the Cents may have been out of their league as they got off to a slow start,•with little intensity. Seaforth horse wins $15,200 Clinton final Blatant Disregard, owned and trained by Arnold Campbell, of Seaforth, won the $15,200 final of the Fall Clearance Stake at Clinton Raceway's season finale on Sept. 30. Trevor Henry was the driver and sent the five-year- old gelding wire to wire with a time of 2:00 3/5. Campbell, who claimed the horse out of the elimination the previous week for $3,500, earned $7,600 for the win. The win bolstered total earnings for Blatant Disregard to more than $20,000 for 2001. The Cents answered right back on that one but coasted through the opening 20 minutes spotting the Trojans a 3-1 lead. The second period was a different story however as the Cents rebounded with a solid effort. Early in the frame, Jason Brenzil jumped in from the point and buried a rebound on the power play to get the Cents within one. Midway through the period Matt Roberts finished off a two - on -one, sliding it in to even the score at three after two periods. Seaforth grabbed the lead in the game early in the third period when Barry Young drove to the net, capitalizing on a rebound. That lead held for six minutes until a scramble in the defensive zone allowed Thamesford to even the score once more, before the controversial penalty allowed them the opportunity for the winner. Tim McClure had a solid game for the Cents, chipping in with two assists. Young, Greg McGrath, Bill Bradley and Blair Kremkau also had assists. Mike Murray sat out the final game of his three game suspension. Seven members of the minor hockey system played for the Cents in the contest. Another large crowd was on hand to witness the game, and general manager Dave Parsons, although disappointed with the outcome, praised the team. "That was an exciting game to watch, an excellent comeback by the guys and•a strong finish. We could have had them. We've been right in every game and these guys are only getting better." The Cents are in town Friday and Saturday, hosting Belmont and Port Stanley. NEED A LITTLE HELP AROUND THE HOUSE? Get help from the professionals In our business directory!
