Home builders' association
forms in Huron County
would also spur economic
development, he said, as
local contractors working
together would be better
equipped to handle large
construction projects.
"The potential in this
community is unbelievable,"
said Hutchins.
Thirty directors are
required for the new
association. Fourteen
directors would come from
the builder, developer and
renovator category. There
would be four directors each
from the following
professional areas:
manufacturer and supplier;
subcontractors; services and
professionals. There would
also be two directors from
the financial services sector
and two ex officio directors.
A builder's association for
Huron County would have an
office and a phone number
that prospective clients could
phone to get information.
N. Hutchins say's his interest
in the association grew out of
his experiences as a self-
employed construction
worker. He said it's more
difficult to produce a quality
product at a reasonable price
without the teamwork an
association brings with it.

Huron County is perhaps
the only area in Ontario that
does not have its own home
builders' association,
according to a contractor
who is spearheading the new
Bluewater Home Builders'
Association.
Steve Hutchins, a Goderich
native who builds homes in
this area and in Barrie, says
an organizational meeting
and golf tournament for the
proposed association is
planned for Friday, Aug. 31
at Bluewater Golf Course.
A new association would
provide membership benefits
to local builders and would
also benefit consumers by
offering information and one-
stop service, said Hutchins,
who is chair of the
membership committee.

Hutchins, president of
Cooney Building Systems
Inc., said there would be
many benefits of the
association to builders and
consumers.
Contractors and sub-
contractors would benefit, he
said, by gaining knowledge
at the national level of trends
and new ways of doing
business as well as receive
the advantage of networking
with people in the trade.
Builders could find new and
efficient ways of tackling
large building projects by
working together, he said.
There would also be other
benefits such as,reduced
insurance premiums and
savings on vehicle leases.
Consumers would benefit,
he said, by knowing their
contractor is backed by the
association and also by
getting information to ensure
they are being fairly treated
in terms of price and other
consumer concerns.
"Our purpose is to promote
new housing and renovations
through education and
training within the industry,"
is the association's motto.
