was on a business trip to Toronto
and Hamilton, spent a couple of
days with, his .mother in town last
week.
The Dominion Stores, which have
operated in Exeter for several years;
have closed up. Several men. were
here this week and packed the stock
shipping it to Stratford.

will regret to know that she is ser-
iously ill with heart trouble, and
will hope for a speedy recovery.
Further word has been received
here that Mr. Geo. Bissett, who suf-
fered a stroke of paralysis in Win-
nipeg recently is still lying in an
unconscious condition,' with little or
no Hope of recovery.
Huron County Council went into
session In tro.. erre. on Tueatter.
Among other important matters that
will come up for consideration at
this session will be the equalization
of the assessment of the county.
Probably not in the history of
the Great Lakes shipping seasons
have they experienced such a unique
record as that of 1925. During the
year not a single life was lost, or.
the total loss of a Canadian vessel.
Mr. H. K. Collver of the Canadian
Bank of Commerce staff has been
transferred to Ingersoll, leaving„ on
Tuesday. Mr. Collver made many
friends during his short stay in Ex-
eter. His place here has been fill-
ed by Mr. F. W. Carroll, of Whitby.
On Friday last while . several
horses were being brought from
Mitchell for Mr. G. J. Dow, one . of
the animals dropped dead, about a
mile and a quarter east of Exeter on
the Thames Road. Another of the
horses got away a few miles out of
Mitchell.
The Exeter Social Club, which was
convicted of operating . a pool room
in Exeter, has reorganized, and is
now operating on a strictly mem-
bership basis. Instead of having to
pay for games the members are re-
quired to pay a fee of one dollar ,a
month.
Mr. Victor Snell of the London
Road, south, has taken over the
Ford agency at Lucan and Parkhill
and has already assumed his new
duties. Mr. Snell will hold an auc-
tion sale of his farm stock on Tues-
day, February 9th. See advt. on
page four.
Miss T. McCurdy, who has had
charge of the Dominion Store here
for some time • has resigned and
taken a position as dry -goods clerk
with Messrs. Jones & May. By her
obliging manner Miss McCurdy had
become very popular with the Do-
minion patrons.
On Saturday last a 'number of
Western horses were brought to T'x-
eter from St. Marys by Mr. Olaf
Horte. The weather was cold and
stormy and the trip over was not the
most pleasant. The animals have
attracted considerable attention
They will be sold at auction on Sat-
urday. See advt. page four.
Mr. Thos. -McMillan, M.P. for
South Huron, made an able speech
in the house on Thursday last, when
he stated the cause for the Canadian
farmer. He dealt vigorously with
trade Antes and warned against a
tariff war with the U. S. A report
from Ottawa which appeared in a
daily paper says, '`In the course of
his maiden speech, Mr. McMillan
made a profound impression upon.
