Correspondents Acapella quartet Beyond Bliss to perform for Walton fundraiser Subjected to the same startling fuel price increases as everyone else in the community, the Walton Community Hall is in dire need of additional funds to offset these costs and a fundraising event has been planned for April 6 to help with the project. The generous donation of talent by Brian Black and his quartet "Beyond Bliss" makes possible an evening of entertainment and the chance to support a valuable community resource. All event proceeds go to Walton Community Hall. This event is featuring Beyond Bliss - an acapella quartet with a compilation of popular ballads and hits. In addition, the intermission will feature the auctioning of a limited edition, authenticated, signed Matts Sundin Toronto Maple Leaf hockey sweater. This sweater has been valued as high as $300. The program will be followed by refreshments. The Beyond Bliss quartet was formed in Kitchener Ontario in December 1998. Beyond Bliss members are Jennifer Black, Judy Garrett, Chad Spaulding and Brian Black. Influenced by groups such as The Nylons and Manhattan Transfer, Brian had dreamed of singing unaccompanied popular music with a small group. He was fortunate to find three talented musicians to share his dream. Beyond Bliss first performed in Trinity United Church Kitchener. Although the group was formed, to perform popular secular music they also have a wealth of experience singing sacred music. Brian has varied musical interests and experience. He has contributed to several Broadway Musicals and Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas. Brian's lyrical tenor voice was perfect for lead roles such as Nanki-Poo in Mikado and Ralph Rackstraw in HMS Pinafore. He has sung folk music with his pal Glen Lees under the name Tapestry. Brian has been sought by several chamber choirs to sing classical music of all periods. He was a founding member of Renaissance Singers. Since that time, Brian has performed classical and contemporary music for choirs such as Bach -Elgar in Hamilton, Blyth Festival Singers and Da Capo in Waterloo. He has benefited greatly from the choral direction of Raymond Daniels, Leonard Enns, Wayne Strongman, Robert Houghton, Alfred Kunz, Richard Hansen and William Janzen. Since Brian was a lad, he has loved Christmas music. One of his greatest joys was singing for The Waterloo County Carollers during the Christmas season. Brian had the opportunity to meet and sing with many talented musicians while carolling. In 1995, he recorded Wishing You a Merry Christmas with soprano Stephanie Kramer. alto Carol Anne Feldstein and baritone Kevin Bradshaw. Stephanie became Brian's vocal coach. Church music has also been present throughout much of Brian's life. Sheryl Loeffler and her partner Douglas Haas provided Brian with many opportunities such as John the Evangelist in Handel's St. John Passion. Brian is currently directing the Walton Youth Choir and the youth musical "The Rock Slinger and his Greatest Hit" in his new community and lives with his partner Joan and three of their five children in Walton Ontario. The event begins at 8 p.m. on April 6. Advance Tickets available at Walton Country Store.
