Centenaires lose Friday
7-6 to Mount Brydges
A third period collapse cost the
Centenaires a point Friday night as they fell
7-6 in overtime to Mt. Brydges.
J.D. Nolan, Derek Akey and Mark Stanley
counted first period markers to give the Cents
the early lead. Stanley struck again early in
the second, fed a pass up the right wing by
Jeff Maccuspey.
Stanley flew past the Bulldog defence and
rifled a top corner blast to put the Cents up 4-
0.
Scott Henderson finished off a 3 on 2 rush
with Josh Holland and Stanley for 5-10
Seaforth lead.
The Bulldogs added a couple of late goals
to get on the board trailing 5-2 after 40
minutes.
Henderson put Seaforth up by 4 midway
through the third but it was all Mt. Brydges
from there.
The Bulldogs chipped away at the lead,
scoring 4 goals in five minutes as Seaforth's
forech.eck went into hibernation and the
Cents got back on their heels. The
Bulldogs, with all the momentum, jumped on
a rebound midway through overtime capping
off their comeback, stealing what should
have been 2 points for the locals.
"For five minutes, we just couldn't get a
break. We couldn't do anything right. I'm
stunned," said General Manager Dave
Parsons.
Sunday night the Cents looked to rebound
against the North Middlesex Stars.
A depleted line up looked like trouble for
the Cents as they battled with only 11 skaters.
Parkhill opened the scoring with a couple of
converted rebounds, taking a 2-0 lead.
J.D. Nolan charged the Stars' net bashing
in a rebound of his own to get Seaforth on the
board. Scott Henderson evened the game at 2,
early in the second as he batted home the
evener while being hauled down from
behind.
The Stars retook the lead but Mark Stanley
answered back 30 seconds later with a pass
from Scott Henderson. Stanley walked in
beside the net and roofed the tieing goal.
Jeff Arnold gave Seaforth a brief lead that
was erased with 20 seconds left in the period,
sending the game into the third tied at 4.
The play was back and forth over the final
20 minutes as the teams traded goals, setting
up overtime for the second game in a row.
The Cents had several glorious
opportunities and near -misses in the extra 5
minutes but were unable to finish.
Seaforth brought home another point with
a 7-7 tie.
"With two lines, I'm satisfied with the
point. I'm happy with the effort," said coach
Jason Papple.
The Cents are in the thick of a Morenz
division battle, fighting their final two home
games of the regular season Friday and
Saturday, in town.
