United church on Tuesday evening
on "The Hearts in Exile," under the
auspices of the Mission Circle was
well attended.
A largely attended meeting of the
Odtlfellows lodge Was held in their
rooms on Tuesday when the ]district
Deputy Grand • Master was . present
and addressed the lodge. Initiation,
work was also put on.

United church on Sunday morning

A quiet wedding took place at
the Evangelical parsonage, • Dash -
Wood, on Wednesday, November 11
at 1 o'clock, when Clara Viola, eld-
est daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Wiegand was united in marriage to.
Mr. Milton D. Haugh, son of .Mr.
and Mrs. Dan. Haugh, Rev. F. B.
Meyer officiating. The bride wore
a gown of rust satin faced canton
with cut velvet trimming. Miss
Idella Bender actedas bridesmaid
while the groom was supported by
Mr. Eben Wiegand. During the
signing of the register Miss Schnel-
ler, of Auora, III., sang a solo "I'll
be True." The groom's gift to the
bride was a muskrat coat, to the
bridesmaid a signet ring, to the best
man a gold tie pin. Immediately
after the ceremony the young ,couple
left for a motor trip to St. Marys,
Stratford,. Kitchener and other
points. Their many friends will

and told in an inspiring and chal-

The iliustrated 'lantern slide lec-
ture en the "King's Highway" fol-
lowing after a sermonette on the
origin of Thanksgiving Day were
received by a large audience at Zion
Evangelical church. The slides
covered the first missionary endeav-
ours by --.the church on the Pacific
coast, beginning .in Mexico and pro-
ceeding in a northerlydirection
through Texas and California. Bee
ing interspersed with the romatic
nature scenes the sides were unus-
ually interesting and educative.
The, Crediton branch of " the
Women's Institute held, their Novem-
ber. • meeting on Tuesday evening
with the Pres. Mrs. C. Zwicker in
the chair. After singing the Insti-
tute ode the roll calf was answered
by Xmas cake receipts; abou'ti 25
members responding. Mrs: G. G.
Mayard, Mrs. Dr. Orme and Mrs. C.
Zwicker gave splendid reports of the
Womens' Institute conventionheld
in London on November 3, 4 and 5,
Mrs.,• D. McIsaac had charge , of
"Current Events" and read, o. very
appropriate armistice story. Follow-
ing this was a demonstration on ice
cream making. After a dainty lunch
the meeting closed with the singing

of the National Anthem. ' It was de-
cided at this meeting to hold an
Oyster supper and ,bazaar in the In-
stitute rooms on _. Tuesday, Decem-

The Thanksgiving banquet to
which the husbands and ' friends of
the Women's Missibn and Aid' Soc-
iety of the Evangelical Church were
invited; on Monday evening past,
was a most joyous, pleasurable and
profitable event, about sixty per-
sons being present. No one refused
the delectable luncheon i in which
chicken pie formed the basis. If
possible, the program, was even a
greater achievement for it (brought
the house down in uproarious ap-
,plause. The numbers of the pro-
gram were two duets by Mrs. Thos.

hinney; two duets by (Mrs. '`Dan Mc-

Last Sunday was a very disagree-
able day for an anniversary occas -
inn but nevertheless Elimv, lle
church Was very well filled for both
services. Rev. G. M. Chidley, of Th.
Road, delivered two splendid ad-
dresses. In the morning his text
was "I am debtor" from Rom. 1, 14,.
speaking along the line of Thanks-
giving. In the evening the text was
Acts 10, 38. The choir: rendered
their anthems in .a capable manner
and quartettes were sung by Mrs. E.
Johns,Miss May Clark, Messrs. B.
Cooper and Alvin Pym, which were
much enjoyed by the congregation,
On Monday evening theweather
was.fine and about 465 people were
served at the heavily laden tables
with a delicious fowl supper. After
all were satisfied,:, they proceeded to
the auditorium • and were made as
comfortable as space would allow
and listened to one of the best and
most varied 'programs given here for
years...,, Master Billie Bending, of
London, .a very talented boy violin-
ist, gave several selections, display-
ing rare skill in handling hii instru-
ment. He played with assurance
and precision • which would do cred-
it to one -many years older in exper
ience,, A very novel part was the
whistling by Mr. Frank Houzen, of
London, very cleverly imitating a
bird with great volume and sweet-
ness. To say this was enjoy-
ed is putting it mildly. He also gave
several cornet solos, which with his
rnanoreuvers while performing, kept
the audience roaring with laughter.
He was accompanied on the piano in
all his numbers.
Messrs. Goulding, Christie and
Mills known as the Exeter Melody
Boys, gave orchestra selections also
sang trios, 'duets and solos, main-
taining their splendid reputation as
entertainers. Mr. Francis Abbot, al-
so of Exeter, was the reader, his
numbers being well chosen and var-
ied and were delivered in a pleasing
and capable manner. All the per-
formers were enchored every time
and graciously responded. Rev.
Livingstone made an able chairman
The proceeds from the anniversary
were about $330.

in good health for some time.
Miss Anna Wurm' who has been ill
and a patient at Toronto General
Hospital, was brought to the home
of Mr. and Mrs. John Fuss where
she is confined to her bed.
Mrs. John. H. Schnell has return-
ed from a very pleasant trip out
west, being as far west as Vancou-
ver, B. C.
Mr. Albert Siebert, who has been
spending the past few weeks at his
home here, left Saturday for Mont-
real, where he has signed up to play

The price ranged from $1.50 to $2.15
per bag. There are several more
ears to be shipped if the weather
continues- fine so that the farmers
can get them out of the . ground.

ing apples at the C.N.R._ station; here

Mr. R. L. Atkinson and wife are
visiting relatives in Toronto, Mont-
real and Detroit. Mr. Atkinson is
being relieved at the C.N.R. depot
by relieving agent J. Lewis.
A large crowd attended the dance
held in the Opera House, Lucan,,
last Tuesday evening.
The fowl supper held at the Mac-
abbees Hall, Mooresville, on Novem-
ber 5th, under theauspices of L.O.L.
493, Biddulph, was largely attended.
Any one that went away not satis-
fied it was their own fault. A dance
was put on after the dinner.
