people held a cors}roast, together
with various amusements on the
lawn and dancing in the house.
The young peqple after indulging
in sport for -a couple of hours par-
took of appetizing corn and hot
dogs, together with marshmellows
toasted over a rosy canipfire, cof-
fee was also served.. The young
people tendered Mr. and Mrs. Glenn
a hearty vote of thanks for the
use of their home and soon after
• left for home, having ;,enjoyed a
• very pleasant and social evening to-
gether.
An increase in prisoners com-
mitted ° to prisons in Ontario last
,year over 1923 is shown in the re-
port of prisons and reformaties in
1 "Ontario for 1924, this increase be-
ing 1,884. The number of con-
victions for intoxication in 1924
was 4,027, compared with 3,482 the

A meeting of the ,Conservatives
of South Huron will he held in Hen-
sall on Friday, Sept. 18th to nomin-
ate a candidate for the House of
Commons. R. U. Le Sueur of
Sarnia and other prominent speak-
ers will addres the convention. A
-large crowd is expected in town for

The rains of the past week have
done considerable 'damage tb the

portion of the growers having them
pulled and bunched, ready to draw
in• when the wet weather - set in.
The rain, however, 'did good as well
as harm for it helped the root crop
and other crops° which were much
in need of a good soaking.
Misses • Margaret, Louise and
Beryl Drummond held a bazaar in
the Anglican ,church on Saturday
last. The young ladies intended
holding it on the lawn of their •
grandfather, Mr. Thos. Drummond,
but owing to the, wet day they held

The first Presbytery • Meeting of
the United church for Huron Coun-
ty was held in the Wesley Church,

On Saturday, September 5 at the
Presbyterian manse, Cromarty, Dar-
rel Parker, of Chiselhurst, was
married to Miss Irene Ladore Walk-
er, thea only daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Oswald Walker, of Cromarty.
Rev. Dr. Ritchie •performed the
Marriage ceremory. The bride wore>
a lovely gown of taupe silk and hat
to match. She was assisted by Miss
Olive Henderson, of London.- The

of Holladay, Alberta, which took

plac in her 47th year. Besides
her sorrowing husband she is sur-
vived by two small sons as well as
her brothers and sisters.

IBrooklin, Ont., the latter part of
last week attending, the funeral of
his aunt, Mrs. Simpson, who died in
that place on Thursday last, aged
89 years. The funeral took place
Saturday.
As the result of a petition sent
into the Mitchell Council by the
business -nen of that ;town the by-
law pertaining to medicine shows,
etc., was changed from $ 3 to a maxi-
mum fee . of $15,00 per day. Ex-
eter Council would do well to- fol-
low this example.

A party consisting of twelve. Chin-
ese students from Hong Kong and

Royalite well (Imperial), continues
to amaze geologists. Its naptha
production increased July to 546,135
gallons, 73 degrees Beaume, an in-
crease of 25 barrels daily over the
June production. The production
continues to increase and the flow of
gas at 20,000,000 cubic feet a day is
