large congregation. This was the last
time during his stay as supply for
Rev. Livingstone, being one Sunday
more than was expected. His sub-
ject "The Man of the Hour" was
dealt' with in a masterly way. Draw-
ing lessons from the life of Paul he
pictured the man of the hour as Jae
should be in every respect. He very
fittingly closed with a beautiful
poem whicth he rendered with splen-
did expression:- Mr. Boa also spoke
a few words in appreciation of the
kind •treatment he has received on
the circuit during the past two mon-
ths and we may say that he has
made many friends here and the best
wishes of all go with him. If at
any time he is permitted to return
he will be given a hedrty welcome.
• Last Sunday morning an Over-
land ear occupied by a man and hie
wife and two children were going
north from Elimville corner when
the 'car began to slide on the road,
it being very slippery from the rain.
When just past M. 'Will John's gate
it struck off to the west side of the
road and the (laver made a quick
turn to the east and was obliged to.
steer straight for the fence to save
an upset on that side. His pre-
sence of mind saved them from
being turned over as the road drops
about four feet at that place almost
straight down and going over was
dangerous work. The ear struck
Mr. Ed. John's wire fence and went
over it, with the two front wheels
in`his mangle patch. No harm was
done to anything and the neighbors
helped to take the fence off a couple
of posts, when the car 'was backed
out without any trouble and the
party proceeded on their way re-
joicing.

mon on Sunday night to an unusual-
ly large congregation. During the

power, and, was very much appre-
ciated by all. Eiirnville circuit will

2nd at the home of Mrs. W. Kers-
lake with a fair attendance. Re-

and final arrangements made. The
fair' is to be held at Hurondale

discussed the purchasing of a piano
for the school but no dicision was

address was given by Miss Margaret
Strang on every day chemistry. The
Misses Pym rendered a • pleasing'
duett. A reading was given by Mies
Helen Millar and a violin selection
by Miss Maud Millar. The ladies
were also favored by a travel talk
by Miss Nettie Ked.dy, who pictured
vividly many beautiful scenes and
placee of interest seen on her recent
visit through the west. The meet-
ing closed by singing "God Save the
King." Refreshments were served
by the lunch committee. The next

Called the Editor a "Deadhead." --
Harry Woods, editor of the Viaell-
ington, Kansas News, went to a
church slipper some time ago to
which he had been • given a "free"
ticket. As he neared the portalsilae
heard one good sister whisper to an-
other, "Here comes that deadhead."
Reflectively he ate his chicken wing
and returned to his office and got
out his truety peacil. He found
that • he had given that/ particular
supper just $3.45 worth of free ad-
vertising and in return therefore
had one chicken wing and the name
of "deadhead." Since that day he
has collected cash for all church
suppers and other pay -functions,
has not accepted a free ticket to any-
thing, and he also gete the', choice
part of the chicken, whiet he pur-
chases forhimself with the cash paid
for advertising whicla he used to
give free. •
