Cold weather already a challenge
for United Way's Coats for Kids

With the early onset of
winter. the Huron United
Way's (HUW) Coats for Kids
campaign is already
encountering challenges
meeting demand.
"This past week has been
, very busy. There is a
desperate need for children's
coats sizes six to 14. for both
boys and girls." said
Executive Director of the
HUW Bonnie LaFontaine.
"We really need all size coats
for kids and adults - there are
adults out there that do not
have proper clothing either."
LaFontaine stated that dry
cleaners in Clinton, Seaforth,
Goderich and Wingham are
accepting coat donations.
They will be cleaned onsite
and forwarded to the HUW.
The Coats for Kids
program was created to help
ensure that all children in the
county will have proper
clothing to last them through
the winter months.
"The program started (this
year) in early November and
will continue until February
or March," she explained..
The HUW has received
help from organizations
within the community. The
Seaforth Manor, a retirement
home. has come forward with
donations of coats collected.
As in past years, local
chapters of the Masons arc
helping gather coats for the
drive.
"They will be making a
presentation on Dec. 2 with
the coats they have
collected," LaFontaine stated.
indicating that the Masons
have been very supportive.
This past Saturday, the
HUW also staged an open
house, with anot her
scheduled for ,Dec. 2 at their
London Rd. location. behind
Huronview. Families that
require coats are invited to
attend the open house
between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
on Dec. 2.

OPP detachemetus in the
county have offered to make
deliveries:
"We will ensure that
confidentiality is respected."
she concluded.
Residents wishing to help
the Coats for Kids campaign
are encouraged to drop off
coats at their local dry
cleaners in Clinton. Seaforth.
Wingham and Goderich.
where they will he cleaned at
no charge and forwarded to
the United Way. For more
information. or to drop off

by January 1, 2001
Due to heavy demand, the $10 fee for a Possession -Only Licence will remain in effect
until December 31, 2000.
Only the $60 Possession and Acquisition Licence will be available after this year.
(You must pass the Canadian Firearms Safety Course or equivalent to get this licence.)
