The Seaforth Lions Club
is still not certain why the
parade route 'suddenly
,,changed bypassing a block
of spectators:
Lions . Club . member
Marlen :.Vincent said they
think it may' have been a
miscommunication
between themselves and
the.OPP.'
That may. have - led
officers to direct: the parade
floats off Main Street i0
Franklin Street' and not
.Duke Street. the traditional
.route.
That route takes floats to
the' Seaforth and. Di'rri t_
Community, Centres
parking lot where floats
can, gather and disembark.
•.However.. Vincent -said
the unexpected alteration to
the route -left participants
nut sure of where to go to
. disassemble from. the
• parade and created sortie
confusion for participants
. and spectators. ' '
Spectators from th
Franklin to Duke- Stree
block had to rush down
Main Street itt order not to
miss what Vincent said was
one of the best parades the
Lions Club has seen.
-One of the.Club's parade
organiidrs;, Heather
VanDorp. said they
apologize for the confusion
and want to make 'sure it
doesn't happen again next
•
year. ,
That parade is already
scheduled for a week later,
on Nov, 30 and should
return to its traditional
route.
"The bands have already
been invited balk;" said
Vincent. • -
VanDorp said they' were
pleased with the turnout in
both floats and spectators.
While they don't have a
physical count because
many entries arrive without
tilling out entry forms. she
said. there were more than
50 entries included five
bands and three majorette
groups.
"It was good to see so
many people out," said
VanDorp.
Within two hours of abandoning a •
vehicle stuck in the• snow in a
Tuckersmith Township ditch.,
someone smashed out the windows'
and kicked in the panels of the cat
causing more than $5.000 in damage.
The- car. a 1996 Chevmlet Cavalier.
had been left stack in the snow and
was discovered by an officer at 12:30
a.m. on Nov. 26 at the. intersection t )f
London Road and Short Hom Road.
At the time. the vehicle..was not
damaged -hut at 3:30 .tan.."another
officer encountered the; vehicle and
found extensive damage.
All the windows had been
smashed out. the side tnirrors Were
bmken off and there were numerous '
dents in the panels of the car'„ide
walls. .
