Craig says the school building will not need any structural changes but might need minor renovations and decorating. While no opening dates have been set, he says the group hopes to "have some activity there during the 2001 calendar year." "Everything is very preliminary and we'll know a lot more in a month," he says. Craig says the partnership is "an example of what you can do when you pull , together." "There was safety in numbers. I don't think any of us would have wanted to do this alone," he says. The schools were closed this year by the Avon Maitland District School Board which said in a press release. the closures were teh "result of a difficult decision to maximize local education funding in the classroom rather than to maintain 'Surplus buildings in the face of declining enrolment." While, the auctions were public, the Avon Maitland hoard will not release names of the buyers until the closing date of Dec. 8. It is rumoured that the Kitchcncribusinessmcn bought the Vanastra and McCurdy schools. Vanastra Community School was sold for $105,000, McCurdy Public School went for 5127;000, Atwood Public School sold for $100,000 and Falstaff Public School in Stratford sold for S6A0,000. Locals defeated in school board election By Susan Hundertmark Expositor Staff Neither of the two Seaforth-area residents running for public school trustee outside their ward were elected in last week's municipal election. But, both Maureen Agar, -who lost in Perth East against current board chair Wendy Ander§on and Jim Floyd, who lost against, incumbent Colleen Schenk in'Northeast Huron, say they plan to stay involved in school politics. Agar says she's"'really pleased" with the 893 votes she got, compared to Anderson's 1,793 votes. "I think it showed the board that all is not well," she says, adding she blames, some negative press by newspapers in Listowel and Stratford that she didn't do better. "They kept saying I was out of the arca but I think you could drop me anywhere in rural Ontario and I'd do a good job. In my eyes, they were fear - mongering," she says. Agar says win or lose in the election, she was going to win since she'll be able to stay in her position as chair of Seaforth District High School council. She says the SDHS Student Success Foundation is planning a meeting soon where a plan of action will be developed about how to best help local students. "We're . working on a couple of ideas to present to the board about the high school gym and the agricultural program," she says. "Not winning the election isn't going to stop me. I'm going to keep pushing for rural education. I'm not going to keep my mouth shut," says Agar. , Floyd says running for trustee was "a very good experience" which he plans to do again next election. He says he also plans to continue working on some pSsssf 1 FABRICLAND'S SURPRISE MOONLIGHT SALE! 1 DAY ONLY -FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24TH 12 NOON- 12 MIDNIGHT' 1 DAY ONLY - FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24TH 12 NOON- 12 MIDNIGHT' "FNTIRF STOCK OF VELVETS, SATINS, METALLICS & LACES 1 DAY ONLY!" 50% Off G PRICE 14400 'JTIRE STOCK OF 15 f0' FASHION POLYESTER PRINTS & SOLIDS 1 DAY ONLY!•• 50% off G PR'CF eKr ~oat -y.
