46 in Memoriam
LESLIE: In loving memory of a
dear husband and father Graeme
(Curly) Leslie who passed away
Nov. 13, 1999.
In a quiet country graveyard,
Where the breezes gently blow,
. Lies one we love so dearly.
And lost one year ago.
He bid farewell to no one,
• He said goodbye to none,
Before we knew his spirit flew,
And from us he was gone.
The days we shared together.
And the memories we hold dear,
And the happiness he gave us. •
Keeps him ever near.
Dearly loved and sadly missed by
Louise, Craig and Carrie 46.45xlcc

from neighbouring Counties.
During the same time, other
Counties answered a little
over 500 calls in Huron
County. The difference
(some 900 calls) netted
revenue of over $628,000. In
the ambulance system, this is
the "gravy". Why wouldn't
we want that to continue?
What economic
development has been
identified as an emphasis
for the future of Huron
East, what direction would
you emphasize to council
to help attract business
and industry and support
existing business? Over the
years, Seaforth has heard we
don't have land for
expansion - industrial or
otherwise. We're one of the
few municipalities that
hasn't "squared off" its
corporate limits to provide
for this expansion. We
should look into that. After
all, there are existing
businesses here right now
that need to expand in the
immediate future. We have
to provide what they .need,
or they'll move on. In order
to attract new industry and
business we have to provide
an infrastructure (water,
sewage, etc.) .that will
support the development. It
appears this may be our
biggest problem at this point.
Across Huron East, most
systems have been in for
years. They need upgrading.
It's a problem we're
inheriting and one we'll have
to solve. It'll take time and
money. But it won't have to
be paid totally by the
residents of Huron East.
Government assistance can
be found, I'm sure. We can't
sit on our hands on this one.
The more industry, business,
private residences we bring
in, the larger our tax base to
pay for services. That's
another way to reduce taxes.
What is your view on the
future of Seaforth District
High School and if it is
threatened again with
closure will you support
keeping it open? If yes,
how? If no, why not? This
is a tough question. Of
course, I'd fight to keep the
high school open. I already
have and wouldn't hesitate
to do so again. We have to
provide these amenities to
keep our communities viable
and vibrant. We have to
continue to explore
educational alternatives. A
number of suggestions have
already been offered. Those
must be explored further. We
already know the community
is willing, but if the Board
persists in refusing' to work
with the community to find
those alternatives, there's
little we can do. In the final
analysis, the School Board
has the legal right to close
schools. I'm pleased to'see a
local person representing the
interests of the community
on the Board. We now have
a commitment to rural Huron

"One day

an empty
chair..."
Q. Will my funeral cost any less if i plan it now?
A. Usually it docs cost less when we prc-plan our
funeral service. There if often a.significant savings in
cost because most funeral homes can offer you
programs that will lock in the cost of most of your
funeral arrangements at today's prices thereby
protecting your hcirs agtainst any possible inflation.

County that wasn't evident
before.
Besides water quality
and nutrient management,
what issues face the
agricultural community
and what can the new.
municipality do to support
the local agricultural
industry? A lot of the
problems facing the
agricultural community are
outside of their control. On
January 1st, Huron East will
become one of the largest
municipalities in Huron
County. By adding our voice
to the Federation of
Agriculture and other
interested groups, we could
help lobby provincial and
federal governments for
assistance 'to level the
playing field for our farmers
against U.S. practices.
While everyone is
emphasizing the need to
work together to make
Huron East work, there
are still distinct rural and
urban centres with varying
needs and concerns. How
can you assure Huron East
residents that you are able
to represent .both distinct
aspects of the new
community? I can tell the
people of Huron East that I'll
represent both rural and
urban interests equally - but
only my actions over the
next three years will prove
that to be true. Don't kid
yourself, the 'rural/urban
faction is alive and well in
Huron East. People are
working diligently behind
the scenes to align with or
against specific candidates.
It's been growing at a
remarkable pace over the
past few weeks. In the final
analysis, it's the people who
will decide if we work
together or not. We have two
choices: we can perpetuate
old problems or we can start
,building bridges for the
future. It's up to the voters.
