Township for over 23 years.
Bergsma: Hullett. Since 1961.
Duizer: i live in Hullett Township just
outside of the Village of Londc.boro. i
have lived in Hullett Township since
immigrating to Canada in 1951.
Hugill: 1 live in.the south part of the
Township of Hullett on Hurst Road 15
near Alma. I have lived on my farm
since 1964.
Q: What is your career?.
Anderson: 1 work as a team assistant
for the.Communuy Care Access Centre
tor Huron.
Bergsma: Farmer. Work for Hensall -
District Co-op.
Duizer: I own and operate a plumbing
and heating business.
Hugill: i am a hog and cash crop
farmer and farm with my three sons.

Mitchell, both of Clinton. are
in the running for the position
of reeve. Voters from 'across
the new municipality of
Central Huron. which
encompasses • Hullett and
Goderich Townships.. along
with Clinton. will elect the •
new reeve. Following are the
answers of the two. candidates
to the questionnaire:
Q: Why are you seeking a
seat on council?
McKay: My term as Mayor
of Clinton was extremely.
challenging and interesting.)
'anticipate that the
amalgamation creating
Central Huron will also be
challenging. therefore I wish
to remain involved.
Mitchell: I am seeking a seat
on council because 1 believe
my experience on the
transition board and my
involvement. at 'the county
level will -he an asset to our
community of Central Huron.
Q: «'hat are the key issues
facing your municipality?
How do you plan to address
these issues?
McKay: The immediate issue
wall he to create a -Cohesive
Central Huron. Future issues
will he: .1. Maintaining
suitable infrastructure: 2.
Maintaining an adequate
supply of clean. safe water vs.
right to farm legisbaton.
Mitchell: Key ;issues are
water quality and quantity..
nutrient management.
benchmarking of municipal
services. sidewalks; roads.
health care reform and
property tax reform. The
issues would be addressed hy
a balanced approach meeting
legislated ;reform but
respecting • our local
ratepayers' concerns and be
ever . • aware of the
communities' needs.
Q: What special
qualifications, experience or
personality strengths will
you bring to the council
table?
McKay: My experience
includes being a councillor..
deputy .reeve and mayor of
Clinton fora total Of 16 years.
i hasp also chaired many other
committees..'
Mitchell: The. strengths I µ•ill

player. dedication. ability to
commit and patience.
Q: Do you foresee any
challenges related to the
new; amalgamated
municipality?
McKay: Challenges will he
maintaining a fair level of
taxation •yet delivering
sen ices.- required by our
residents. Also: developing
the mind set that we arc a
single municipality..
!Mitchell: To make the
transition of knitting together.
three municipalities as smooth
as possible and •to ensure we
rernain .equal partners and
respect the history of each
municipality.
Q: What is your career?
McKay: I am a • former.•
elementary school principal,
having been principal of each
of the public schools in
Central Huron. Having been a
school principal has helped
develop leadership qualities
that will be a benefit.
Mitchell: Self-employed for
10 'years in retail with a
business in Clinton and
Bayfield.
DEPUTY -REEVE
As with- the position of
reeve. the- deputy -reeve will

across the Central Huron arca.
In the running for the position
are John Bezaire. Bert Dykstra -
and Bob Szusz.
Q: Why are you seeking a
seat on council?
Bezaire: Most importantly is.
the passion I have -for politics.

Szusz: Being on the Central
Huron Transition Board has
allowed me to see hors the
new municipality will. look
and I feel thar-it would he
great -to •see the plan put in
place. i think we need•to make
the new municipality a leader
and feel with my experience. I
can help accomplish this task.

facing your municipality?
How do you plan to address
these issues?
Bezaire: The challenge of
delivering services that benefit -
thc larger municipality fairly_
and equally' will be, important.
Given amaigamation and
provincial downloading, lienal
municipalitie.'will he faced
with new. responsibilities that
will require strong 'cadetship
to maintain a productive
council. I feel a long term. plan -
to re -invest in.:our roads.
sidewalks and water systcnls
needs to he put in place -

municipality. 1 am results -
oriented and a very

Bezaire: We will definitely
have our•work cut out for us.
Central Huron may be one of
the most diverse new
municipalities in Ontario.
With tarmers.. cottagers.
retirees. small • business
operators and several small
residential areas. we hay .,
tremendous number of views
and interests to bear in mind
every time ' we make .r
decision. • .
Dykstra: Challenges .wiluld
include the transition. but also
the mangy changes with a new
council and staff. Bringing
this all together into Central
Huron and still developing a
new sense of pride. We are not
losing but gaining a new
municipality.
Szusz: i feel that because of
the diverse nature of the`ncw
municipality. the 'challenge
Will he bringing it together -
into a strong' municipality and -
making sure • everyone is
treated fairly;
