Seeking a seat for the Hullett Township ward are Marg Anderson, Bruce Bergsma, Tom Duizer and Doug Hugill. Following are their questionnaire responses. Q: Why are you seeking a seat on council? Anderson: I am seeking a position on council because I would enjoy representing ratepayers in.Ward 2. Also, I have been a member of the Central Huron transition board and would like to see the intentions of the board implemented. Bergsma: Because I enjoy it and feel I have something to contribute for the people of Ward 2 and to work together in an amalgamated community. Duizer: I'm seeking a seat on the new amalgamated council in order to assist in, through my experiences in politics and business, a smooth and effective transition for the ratepayers• from local councils to the new expanded Central Huron Council. Hugill: I have gained a lot of experience working on council for the last six years and on the transition process of Central Huron. Q: What are the key issues facing the municipality? How do you plan to address these issues? Anderson: A key issue facing the new municipality will be the amalgamation. combining the rural and urban as one. My goalris to consider the wants and needs of all the ratepayers and to try to come up with the fairest solution for everyone. Bergsma: Amalgamation, agriculture and also the clean water issue. Duizer: I believe the main issue all municipalities are facing is the effective implementation of the new expanded council. In the combined municipalities, all ratepayers should be represented equally, and I will strive to see that happen. Hugill: They are water quality and manure waste management and environment as issues of the future. Q: What do you think the role of local government should be: Anderson: The role of local government should be to represent and communicate with the local ratepayers and to offer services within the budget. Ward Seaforth Position seeking: councillor Occupation: Retired SDHS teacher, farm owner. Interests/hobbies: people, photography, sports (golf, basketball, horses) Why are you running? I believe in the community of Seaforth. I have found my past volunteer service to the community extremely satisfying. I want to use my abilities and experience to ensure that Seaforth continues to be a great place to live. to work and to raise a family. What are the key issues in your platform? I will work to maintain and improve the quality of Iifc that has made Seaforth a very special community. Quality of life includes environmental issues, quality health care, a vibrant business community. education and recreation. I will work to persuade the greater community of Huron East to come together for the benefit of all. I will take the time to listen to and respond to the concerns of the Seaforth community. What experience do you have that will help in your position: Creative thinker; good listener; effective communicator; Chair, Seaforth Police Services Board; Director, Huron Hospice Volunteer Services; Vice -chair, Seaforth District High School Council; Seaforth Planning Board; Seaforth Museum Committee. Name: Michael Hak Position seeking: councillor Please note: Michael Hak lost his wife during the election campaign and was not able to complete an election profile. He has nine years experience on council, is a member of. LACAC; an active member of the Heart and Stroke Foundation and an active member of the community including a member of the Seaforth Curling Club. He has seen the community face losing its hospital, high school and now ambulance and has fought on council for all of those services and continues to believe all must be fought for. I have -also represented the ratepayers of Hullett Township on numerous occasions. During my term from 1992-1994. I %%as the chairman of the landfill committee. As chairman. 1 aided in the implementation of the recycling program in Hullett Township. Hugill: Lifelong Hullett Township resident. Three years as councillor and last three years as deputy -reeve. Q: Do you foresee any challenges related to the news, amalgamated municipality? Anderson: The main challenge with the new amalgamated municipality will be for everyone to now see thcrosekes a. one. Bergsma: To he able to work together for the best of all involved. Duizer: Obviously, problems will arise as the council adjusts to the new structure of government. such as addressing both rural and urban concerns. hut through cooperation and commitment to success. these problems will merely serve as'a learning process. Hugill: To have the three municipalities into one. and that everything is fair for the urban and rural working together. Q: What part'of the municipality do you live in?
