Position
seeking:
Mayor
Occupation Retired
Interests/hobbies:
Gardening, hiking, soccer.
Why are you running? I
was asked by people in
every part of Huron East to
run. People told me that I
was the person to bring this
new community together. I
wish to help create our new
community. At County
Council, I have been
effective and I wish to
continue to speak for all of
Huron East.
What are the key issues in
your platform? I wish to be
mayor of all of Huron East.
This is a merger of equals
and I am determined to be
fair to all parts of Huron
East. Experience and
leadership are the keys. The
results show that I don't just
talk --I deliver the goods. I
am a builder --not a critic --
the results speak for
themselves. Full value for
each of your tax dollars. The
proof is there is Grey
Township.
What experience do you
have that will help in your
position: In my 12 years on
council, we started the first
rural blue box program, and
the first nutrient
management plan • for
intensive livestock farms. As
a member of the council
team and leader with the
North Huron Economic
Development committee we
were able to get natural gas
extended to Brussels and
Wingham. A promotion
brochure was produped and
an inventory of
manufacturing sites was
compiled. As a member of
County Council. I was able
to get funding for an aquifer
study and sentinel wells to
protect our water. As a
transition board member, I
helped create Huron East. I
know the details of the
organization and its
members. Promotion is
essential for economic
growth in all of Huron East.
As a writer and producer of
films, videos and other
promotional material, I offer
my experience and skills.

Interests/hobbies: Harmony
Hi Lites, gardening,
socializing with friends.
Why are you running? I
want Huron East to be the
best part of Huron County.
What are the key issues in
your platform? Retain
ambulance facility in Huron
East (at or near hospital);
economic development,
fortunate to have both
agriculture and industry in
Huron East, must take
advantage of that apd
actively promote it; water
quality must be one of our
top priorities. Can't cut
corners or dollars on this
important issue; nutrient
management plans most be
enforced.
What experience do you
have that will help in your
position: Councillor since
1997; reeve since 1998; feel
comfortable dealing with
provincial ministers and
ministries, have done it for a
number of years; conflict
resolution has been a part of
my work experience for
more than 20 years.

Why are you running? As a
member of the Huron East
transition committee, the
next council will have to
continue to make cost
effective, informed, non-
partisan decisions. I feel I
would not be responsible if I
did not let my name stand.
What are the key issues in
your platform? I will not
use ruinours or scare tactics,
only facts to get elected.
Services must be maintained
and enhanced in a cast -
effective government for all
the people of Huron East. I
will not give in to self-
interest groups. High taxes
without hard and efficient
services will prevent
development in Huron East.
What experience do you
have that will help in your

supervisor experience; seven

municipality but the joining
of five successful
municipalities. Each

community spirit over the
years to become areas that
we are all proud to live in
and call our own. The
councils were not looking to
amalgamate; it was an idea
of the Ontario government
that was forced upon us. The
transition board was formed
to make the amalgamation a
reality. Unfortunately. their
first goal appears to be "get
the job done." Little concern
was given about the
individual uniqueness of
each municipality and what
has made us proud to live in
the communities that we
have chosen. Tuckersmith
Township has approximately
$750,000 of reserves that
must be spent in a live -year
period or we lose the money.
Tuckersmith has two council
members sitting the
transition hoard. These
people are supposed to he
representing out interests.
What amazed me was when
asked who on the new
council decides how the
taxpayers' money was spent.
neither of them had ever
asked the question. I think
too much effort has been
spent in getting amalgamated
and not enough thought has
been given on what each
community may he losing
because we just wanted to
get the job done. I am sure
Tuckersmith is not the only
arca with major issues that
have been overlooked. When
the new council is formed on
Jan. 1. they will have the
ability to fix the oversights
from the transition hoard. I
want to see all the municipal
centres kept open and the
level of service that we have
some to expect should he
maintained. With the support
of the community. I will he,
there fighting for each area
of Huron East.
MacLellan has four years -
experience on council.
