Centenaires win against Thamesford Friday
The Centenaires dropped
their third straight game on
Wednesday night in Lucan.
The Cents were off their
game before it even started
as they were assessed a
minor penalty for not leaving
the ice in time after warmup.
Despite starting the game
shorthanded, the Cents
played a hard first period,
outshooting the Irish, 15-10
but yielding a 2-1 lead to
Lucan.
The second period was an
end-to-end shootout which
saw the Cents, even the score
midway through the period
on a point shot by Chris
Fielder.
The Cents were a victim of
their own powerplay again
when Lucan dumped a shot
at the Seaforth net that
fooled Stonely for a
shorthandedoal. The Cents'
powerplay has given up four
more goals than they've
scored thus far and. has
become a point of contention
for head coach Jason Papple.
"Our last two losses have
been by just a goal, those
man advantages have turned
out to he the difference
against us. We have to turn
that around. We're giving
points away," he said.
Seaforth managed to even
the score at three on a give -
and -go by Aaron Parsons and
Scott Henderson. With two
minutes to go in the second,
Seaforth went ahead 4-3
when Curtis Meyers tipped a
shot from Adam Boshart.
Before the end of the period,
however. Lucan finished off
an odd -man rush. hammering
in their own rebound
sparking a third period
comeback.
Three third period goals by
the Irish went unanswered in
the third including an empty
Wetter that went
unchallenged.
General Manager Dave
Parsons expressed
"disappointment" in the third
period effort of the Cents
which had customarily been
their best period so far this
season.
Seaforth Centenaires
Management and coaches
met with the players prior to
Friday's home game and
directed the players that poor
effort was not going to go
unrecognized, and that threat
sparked the Cents to a
spirited first period against a
solid Thamesford Trojan
team.
Aaron Parsons opened the
scoring banking a pass of a
Trojan defender.
Tim Sills took a breakaway
pass from Parsons at the four
minute mark and put the
Cents up by two after 20
minutes.
The Cents were flying in
one of their best efforts of
the season and that flurry
continued immediately in the
second as A.J. Larivee
blasted a shot to score 13
seconds in.
Midway through the
second, Scott Van Dooren
scored what appeared to be
the Cents' fourth goal but the
goal was called back on a
brussels.walton
delayed penalty.
Seaforth kept the pressure
on Thamesford and were
able to go up by four when
David Ansley won a draw
hack to Jay Baker who
stepped into a wrist shot
beating the Trojans' goalie
over the shoulder.
It appeared the Cents
might run away with the
game but a couple of
defensive zone breakdowns
put the Trojans on the board
late in the .second and again
early in the third.
The Cents had some
excellent chances to score
through the third but it was
the Trojans on the comeback
scoring at 7:13 of the third
narrowing the score to 4-3.
With the Cents back on
their heels protecting the lead
the Trojans came out flying
through the final five
minutes of the third.
Chuck Robertson was

flurries while the Trojans

Parsons was ahlc to add an
empty net goal in the dying
seconds scaling the win for
Seaforth.
Scott Van Dooren was the
victor in a second period
bout with Trojan tough guy
Drew Belt and Jamie Black
went toe to toe in a third
period draw late in the third
sending the Cents' bench to
their feet.
Van Dooren was pleased
with the team's hustle and
aggression, . especially
through the first 40 minutes.
In his opinion, "they were
this season."
"Our confidence is pretty
fragile right now." said
Papplc. "When they got
close late in the third we
started to sit hack on our
heels. We need to work on
keeping that hustle that got
us the lead in the first place."
Seaforth has a record of
three wins, one tic and six
losses (including one in
overtime), after 10 games,
good for 8 points and top
spot in the division.
The Cents arc on the road
for the next three weeks
starting in Parkhill Saturday.
